Did you modify or open up the backing plate?

No modifying need it. Straight bolt on.I cheched once the car was lowered if touched with the wheel, and nope. Perhaps because I have a 10mm spacer. I went with these ducs as they cost 17 dollars each vs 1XX for other ones. Their is not point spending big $$ on cooling the rear as they don't get as hot as the fronts, but it's always good to have some cooling.

I have done this rear cooling duct mod but with the GT2 ducts, the stock turbo backing plates are solid and doesn't have cooling slots cut out. I'm sure if you are using the 997 ducts the slots are cut out in the 997 backing plate. Defeats the purpose of putting on cooling ducts when the cool air is completely blocked by the backing plate.

From what I saw, i think it will benefit from cooling. It works identical as the front ducs. Only way to find out is. Using one of these .

And I have logged before temps. Better yet. I will install only one side and go for a spin and see the difference and log with pics

depending on how your braking, you will notice a big difference just by opeining up the backing plates. most likely 100's of degrees diff on the track. The stock front backing plates are opened up to accept fresh air directly onto the disc. Unlike the rears which are completely blocked from fresh are onto the rotors.

On the 997tt there is more rear brake bias than the 996tt.

Oak,

How hot would you consider similar to track conditions ? For the front and rear ? As for how hot i will get them when testing with one side brake ducs and other side no brake ducs. I will say the fronts will be around 1200 degrees rears about 500 degres.

Oak,

Sorry I was not able to get the temps as hot as I would like due to traffic in my back road. Anyways, I took temps before I left the office on rotor and caliper.
The side with duc was 5 degrees cooler then side with no duc. That dosent mean much. The rotors were the same temp off a few degrees as you can see.
Then I went for a quick 5 mile drive that I do after work, and I got the temps hotter, not as hot as I would like. The rotors were about the same temp + or – 10 degrees.
The calipers however were , 60 degrees different. The side with a duc was much cooler. Then I procedded to finish the drive as I’m way to tired after work and last night driving the **** out of a e92 m3
I managed to get the side with a duc to 153 degrees, and 251 for rotor. The side with no duc was 248 degrees! And 249 for the rotor. So inconclusion, I’m going to keep these thigns as they cost me 20 bucks each and it will keep my pads cooler and brake fluid cooler at the track.

absolutely yes, you would see a larger delta in temps by opening up the backing plates. by your readings theres hardly any difference in temps.

On the rotor aspect hardly any difference. I will open them when I change my toe arms. On the calipers, over 100 degrees Thats significant for brake pad wear and brake fluid.

well I guess it's better than no ducts, just think how much diff once you open them up. at the moment all the fresh air is just blowing onto the backing plate and not dirctly on the rotor.

tranman329 is infamous around these parts
do these ducts not coming factory installed on the 997tt or is it an upgrade part?
