2010 One Lap of America.. Interesting

No one is doubting that the GT2 is a GREAT and DEADLY performer...I am however saying that the GT2 is dominating b/c of the driver, plain and simple...I know Leh well enough to say that with confidence. Put Leh behind the wheel of a properly set-up GTR with similar power-to-weight???? Well, I suppose he could answer what he thinks the outcome would be. He is simply amazing behind the wheel...

I'm of the opinion that a good driver can get more out of a GTR than he can a GT2, but a great driver can get more out of a GT2 than he can a GTR.
In other words, I think a GTR may actually hold Leh back.
Thanks.

I'll be happy to drive for u next time... PM if you need a resume.

Peter, next time you see Leh, please ask him what he thinks the answer to that would actually be. I'm honestly curious.

On a serious note, I'm not downplaying Leh's hand in this at all, but some of you guys are making it sound like the GTR driver got his driver's license yesterday.

I, for one, am surprised that the GT-R is where it's running, even with the problems it's had.

Hey, I just came across this thread and wanted to pop in.
We are very excited about how well the car and Leh are doing in this event. With my business partner as co-driver and support they are a very hard team to beat.
Tomorrow will tell the tale.

[QUOTE=jaspergtr;2832373]Excuses about a GT-R losing to a GT2? Really? Isn't this the natural order of things? I don't think Nissan set the GT2 in their sights, it was always the Turbo. This has never really been disputed, except by magazines that had to find a current Porsche model (at the time) that could outrun the GT-R. That's the same as running a ZR-1 vs 911tt and wondering why the Chevy wins... Really?
Yes, they're already talking about it... They've been saying the same thing for the last two years. They only have to repeat it for those that can't seem to understand it.
why you getting all upset? i'm only repeating what GTR owners are saying in the GTR forums. the cars are in the same class in the competition, I didn't make up the rules, GTR won last year (congrats), same GTR broke down this year, bummer, GT2 is winning this year. so which reason is it? superior driver? superior car? roll eyes

But it's the combo of driver and car, driver plays the BIGGEST roll though, no one can argue that!
NICEEEEEE, congrats to Topspeed and Leh!

To remind you, the claim is that GTR beat a 997TT by 29 seconds, and 997 GT2 by 25 seconds at the ring, which got SOME of the GTR owner's egos up in the skies.
Based on the above times, your point about TT as a target vs. GT2 is a moot one, as 4secs on a 7 minute course between a TT and a GT2 is marginal.
Pretty sure Leh would be spanking that GTR in a 996TT just the same way, provided the car had same mods as the GT2. On top, TT would do better on the wet skidpad and in the 1/4 on street tires than the GT2.
And BTW, I'm not surprised at all that GTR is running like this becuase IT IS a great car, just not my cup of tea.

Great win, i followed the blog everyday!
I have not driven a gtr but i have driven the new m3. Which someone here pointed out something about computer vs driver. The new m3 i was able to drive it at the max potential within 30 seconds of being behind the wheel. New cars have so many computers that it makes the ride 'synthetic' aka fake. It solves everything for you. Even the new m3 with everything full on and no traction control, it still felt 'synthetic' vs raw. The car is AMAZING but, i don't think for a moment it requires a skill driver to maximize the car. I think anyone with 1/2 a dozen DE's can maximize the car. Going along with that, i also think the GTR is the same way. Now with any of the 911 line up. You have to be BRAVE to drive at the limit without nannies, and have skill, and confidence in what your doing because the car does not forgive.
Like i told the owner of the m3 after he was shocked how well i was able to drive his car. The best anology is " Learning to maximize a 911s performace is the equivilant of taming a bull. When you learn to tame a bull, taming a chicken ( the m3, gtr, all the cars with nannies saving you) its no big deal "
So where i'm going with this is Leh is an amazing driver and was able to extract every ounce that GT2 had from what i saw! The GTR car probably had not much more in it. I won't say where this took place and with who but their was a candinate for an f1 seat for someone i know, he was driving a gtr way modded, and he could not lap faster then my 996tt with me driving it. So I think the car is pretty much max out from the factory. Still a great car for what it is.
