We had a talk about that lastnight in the hotel. It would be interesting. Maybe we will just have to find out first hand.

Ya, really!
To remind you, the claim is that GTR beat a 997TT by 29 seconds, and 997 GT2 by 25 seconds at the ring, which got SOME of the GTR owner's egos up in the skies.
Based on the above times, your point about TT as a target vs. GT2 is a moot one, as 4secs on a 7 minute course between a TT and a GT2 is marginal.
Pretty sure Leh would be spanking that GTR in a 996TT just the same way, provided the car had same mods as the GT2. On top, TT would do better on the wet skidpad and in the 1/4 on street tires than the GT2.
And BTW, I'm not surprised at all that GTR is running like this becuase IT IS a great car, just not my cup of tea.

The GT2 (either 996 or 997 - for those who haven't been on the internet for the last three years), was never the target for the base model GT-R.
I thought my point was clear two years ago, when I said just about the same thing...

1) Nissan cheated when they claimed ring times in a "stock" GTR - this happens to be the only time GTR "officially beat" a Porsche at the road course, hence my reference to it.
2) 10yr old 966 platform is still competitive against the GTR, which MOST of the nagtroc gang won't accept.
Beyond that, no problem at all, I like the GTR just fine!
Cheers, TK

1) Nissan cheated? Prove it. And really? Everything resorts to 'Ring times? Something somebody else can do with someother car on someother track on someother day?
2) Sport Auto (obviously with less seat time) ran a 7:3x (who really gives a sh*t about it anyway), which is faster than the claimed 996GT2 time.
I think you meant, 996, instead of 966 (I don't want heavychevy to retort something useless about me not knowing which model I'm referring to).
GT-R vs 996tt - I'm in that camp. Stock for stock with same driver, I'm inclined to believe that the GT-R would net better times for almost everything.
996GT2 - properly driven should outperform the GT-R in almost any arena.
I believe the 997ttw/PDK should outperform the GT-R in almost any arena... Despite what R&T reported (yes, heavychevy, I'm aware that they chose the manual because it was more fun - yeah, no bias there from the very beginning).
With these cars all being extremely high performance, it will most likely come down to the driver/conditions anyway.

I think this statement is pretty revealing. A 7 to 8 year old car that can compete and in most instances surpass a brand new platform. The ability of the Porsche to stay solid mechanically and its craftmanship (interior parts etc.) speaks volumes. My '02 2 still runs and performs the same as the day I bought it; no interior squeaks, loose stitching, parts. I would be very interested in revisiting the GT-R in 7 years. Does anyone believe that it will feel as tight mechanically, to include the interior, as the day it was purchased? Does anyone believe that it will compete with a 2016 Porsche?

I think the bottom line is that the GT2 in the hands of Leh was DOMINANT....PERIOD. This accomplishment is downright amazing... I would still love to see how Leh would do on these same tracks in a properly prepped GTR (like the GT2 with more power, weight taken out, suspension dialed, etc....)

I hope to see competition like this for years to come.

Do you believe that your '09 GT-R; mechanically and including body components, will perform as flawlessly in 7 years as it does today? Do you think that your '09 GT-R wil be able to compete with a 2016 Porsche Gt3 or 2? Of course I don't know what a 2016 Model GT-R or Gt3 or 2 will be like. Will they even continue the model through 2016? My point and/or question was; will a '09 GT-R stand the test of time with respect to craftsmanship and durability compared to a Porsche?

If I didn't track it, I'd be more inclined to say - yeah, it'll be fine in 5 years. Will the R35 be competitive with the next gen GT3? Sure. GT2? Highly doubtful (as it doesn't compare to this gen GT2, nor the previous one). Just as it doesn't compare to the ZR-1 (but it does compete with the Z06).
*edit: The only reason I believe it MIGHT compete with the next gen Turbo, is that Porsche has made only slight adjustments to each 911 model over the last 12 years. The biggest improvement was PDK. Without it, the GT-R (and it's DCT) has a slight advantage in some areas. The PDK equals that part of the equation out, and the superior 911Turbo is able to slightly edge out the GT-R in some of the comparisons.

I've already owned it for almost two years, so 5 to go...

I would love to have a GTR in my stable. I don't think your car would be getting this much attention if it wasn't a capable car on the track.
