January 17, 2005 -- A wealthy Brooklyn real- estate developer was collared yesterday after flashing a badge in an attempt to keep his sports car off the towing hook, authorities said.
Eddie Sitt, 35, was arrested outside the American Airlines terminal at JFK Airport at around 10 a.m. when his gold badge was observed to read "e pluribus unum" instead of "police," said a spokesman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
A placard reading "Federal Law Enforcement" sat in the windshield of Sitt's 2004 Porsche as Port Authority cops were preparing to tow it, authorities said.
He is alleged to have displayed the badge, which also bore the image of an eagle and the numbers "9184," and asked cops not to tow the car, DA Brown's spokesman said.
"You can't tow it . . . I'm a federal agent. I went to the Police Academy just like you," Sitt told cops, according to statements read at his arraignment last night.
He then told the officer he used to work in a precinct and tried to drop the name of a cop, the assistant district attorney said.
Later, he told cops that a federal law-enforcement support group sent him the shield because he donated money, the prosecutor said.
Sitt's Porsche also had an E-ZPass that had been painted orange, resembling the specially colored tags that are issued only to law enforcement, the DA's spokesman said.
Sitt was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument and criminal impersonation, both felonies. He was released without bail.
He remained silent as he left the Queens criminal courthouse surrounded by five family members.
"I think its a case that will ultimately be resolved in his [Sitt's] favor," said his lawyer, Leslie Nizen.
Sitt is an executive at Sitt Asset Management, a downtown real-estate firm that owns, among other buildings, 1369 and 1370 Broadway and 24 W. 57th St. The group also controls the site in Downtown Brooklyn being eyed for a Wal-Mart store.
Sitt faces up to seven years in prison if convicted on the most serious charge.

Posing as a cop is the most retarded thing anyone can do... especially for someone who seems to be wealty, and has a lot of things going for him.
