Buying my first Porsche

Hi, so Im relatively young and been driving safe, cheap cars for the last decade or so while I was in school. Been out for a couple years and have been saving and investing smartly and now its time to finally buy my dream car (well not quite a Mirage GT, but still a huge step up) in a 996 Turbo. Ive been reading this site for awhile and doing a lot of research, but as I get closer to deciding its starting to get scarier.

I wanted to read the opinions of members on this site on the car im looking at: a 2002 996 Turbo 6-speed. 26k miles for $46k. There have been four previous owners including used as a fleet car. No second gear pop-out issue from what they know and have gotten the car completely inspected from Greff Motors (http://www.greffmotors.com/)

If I decide to purchase this car I would plan a PPI with that same company, fly in to inspect in personally and drive it of course, then fly out and have the car shipped back.

Im am very interested in this car, so any opinions/advise or knowledge of another car in similar condition would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How come? why should it be cheaper? the mileage? 4 owners?

Also the dealer says the car is immaculate with no dents or dings and has a clean carfax.

I disagree the price sound more than fair for a low mile TT. I just saw a higher milage one go for more than that.Even at Manhiem the prices are up so if you can grab one at a fair price than go for it. This seem like a good deal.

Sounds like a generally fair price to me considering the mileage and age. You are certainly correct in going for the PPI so I'd say proceed with confidence knowing you will protect yourself as best you can. Best wishes!

A warranty is always a good idea. Also I looked at that link you posted and the car was not on there only an 03'. What are the colors?

I agree, that sounds like a good price. I just paid $47.5k for a black/black 2002 996tt Tip with 29k miles. Fortunately for you, there's a bigger selection of 6 speeds that Tips; I'm too tall for a 6 speed at 6'6''. I tried my best over two weeks to get it down to $46k, but that wasn't going to happen and I didn't want to let a rather arbitrary $1500 stand in they way of getting a great car configured exactly how I wanted/needed it.

I'd recommend a compression test along with your PPI, and if something worrying happens during that, then a leakdown test too. Also, call Porsche and see if they will look up the vin and see if there are records of warrantied repairs, so you can get a feel if this car was a problem child or carefree for its owners. If all checks out, thats all you can do and this low mileage baby should be a wonderful car to own.

Thanks so much for all the advise everyone! I am actually pretty excited about it. The dealer also says they have an overrev report that is very favorable on a 25k mile car.

Offer them $40k on it, then $41k after thier counter, and see what happens. My experience with dealers is that most are willing to move 7-10%, but anything past 5% will take a little bit of effort.

The first link was to the company that the dealership trusts to do inspections on the cars and say they are highly reputable. I didn't know if anyone had heard of them and could back up the dealer's claims.

Greff is an ok shop- customer service and communication is terrible. We dont have a local porsche dealer anymore, but the entire service staff started a new place called nola sport. They are probably the best for a ppi. If it's already done, I'm sure Greff handled it ok.

Did they send you the PPI from greff?
