horsepower and torque are mathematically related via this equation:
HP = (torque x RPM)/5252

and thus, horsepower and torque are always equivalent (ie, cross on a dyno) at ~5252rpm.

Thanks for stating the obvious about a very simple concept..lol. Not my question at all at the time. The question was more along the lines of why that launch rpm was chosen which coincidentally matches the intersection point.

i know it was, and i wasn't trying to answer the question as to why they chose that RPM. just clarifying the dyno point in case you or anyone else reading this didn't know.

more importantly, has anyone had any experience with this launch control? i ran a search here and on youtube but came up with only this thread and this video. does it work well? improve 1/4 mile times? burn up stock clutches? waste of cash? and what happens after the launch...once you hook up, i'm assuming it goes back to winding out to redline with wide open throttle?

What happens after the launch is a big , this is my car in the video I had about 18,000 when I installed the launch control now I have over 28,700 on same stock clutch with Softronic & Exhaust. I love my car so I have only launched it once in the video and haven't used it since. Once the tires hooked up I just went threw the gears shifting right before my red line very smooth. It really did take off like a bat out of hell but considering how hard it is on my drive-train I will limit my fun with this mod.

Softronic sets it at 5200 rpm to create .2 or .3 worth of boost at launch. I side steped my clutch in the video and as you can tell it was a pretty smooth launch considering it was my first launch in my car at the time

I am still wondering why the 5200 rpm point was chosen? I would have thought something closer to 4k would have been better and safer?

Mine is set at 4,000/4200 RPMs and its does not seem to be that violent of a launch, hard shock to drive train..

John, my car just can't seem to rev to 42,000 rpm

JK...I know what you mean, I think 4000 would be about perfect. I guess maybe on a stock car 5200 would be ok.

As cool as this tuning option may be, it's not the same as the factory 997.2 launch control. The factory launch control is integrated with the traction control and can feather the throttle based on the amount of traction the computer sees.

It would nice to experiment different launch rpm points... 3,000, 3500, 4,000

You can significantly reduce wheel hop or axel tramp by shock/spring tuning and with stiffer engine mounts.

That said, let's not simply point out the negative side of this "extra". Epl and softronic are the only two tuners so far with this option from what I know

well apparently not THAT smooth if you only did it once

i'm wondering what would happen if you didn't side-step the clutch. that's clearly the most violent (but effective?) scenerio and most potentially havoc-wreaking to your drive train. what if you used the traction control and let the clutch out smoothly but very quickly? you may burn up clutches a bit faster but maybe save the axles/differentials/etc? or am i crazy?!

I don't think that would work. If psm senses too much traction loss, then it will put you in limp mode, just like if you had too much power and I bet that with a tuned 996 or better it will put you in limp mode fast.

It was a smooth launch considering it was at 5200 rpm's (I also understand this is not the greatest thing for are drive-trains hence reason why I only have done this once.) When I side-step my clutch I let it out in a controlled manner, letting off the clutch completely is way more violent IMO.
