Should I Really Stay away from 2001 996tt
Im currently in the market for 01-03 996tt, and I was told to stay away from 01 and stick to 02+ Apparently there were a lot of changes made (very minor ones) over 50 to be exact from 01 to 02. Ofcourse PPI and all the typical steps will be taken before purchasing, but as a whole, should I stay clear of 2001?
It would make sense as with most 1st generation cars there are always some issues that are worked out by the following year.
Thanks again.

Keep in mind that a lot of the parts in this car were tweaked from the 1997 boxster. The 996 911 was introduced (stateside) in 1999. And the turbo drive-train introduced in 2001 is pretty much bullet proof.
I would stick to the nicest car in your price range, no matter the year.

I had also heard about the changes for 02 and that is what I purchased. If I had to do it over again though, I'd buy an 03. They are suppose to have even more changes and a better wiring harness than the 02's had. Just my $.02 worth.

Thanks for the replies, apparently there were part changes more so than interior and exterior changes mentioned above.

I'm not sure about others but I can tell you that my 2001 is an awesome car. I have not had it long but what a car. Spoiler malfunction is a problem I'm dealing with now but my Master Tech says it's a normal problem and repairable with little expense. That has been verified by the folks on this site too "The car is bullet proof" according my tech. The glovebox issue isn't a big deal for me as the door panels have storage and the center console as well. I drive to fast to have liquid in the car, LOL. I think you find the one you like, have it checked out and pull the trigger. You're going to love it! Good luck!

I think most people confuse the changes for the 996 NA with the 996 Turbo. From what I know, no major changes were made on the TT. Just minor stuff, like glove box, cupholders, etc. The 996 NA on the other hand, had many major changes (engine, frame, headlights, etc).
So 2001 is not much different where it really matters unless you MUST have cupholders.

well then you'll have to list them for us because nobody seems to know as much as you...

Another proud 2001 TT owner here. My advice is not to let the model year stop you if you find a clean example (right color, right options, etc.) which is priced right and passes a thorough PPI. Best wishes!

Maybe they were referring to the NA, I will check to confirm and get back.

There are MAJOR differences in NA 996 between generation, not so much on the turbo, other than waht others have listed, i you can live without a glove box and cup holders, no reason not to take a 01.
