1.3-1.4 bar on pump gas!?!
Hey everyone, I just had a PPI done on a 2001 tt tip and it threw overboost codes of 1.3-1.4 bar. IMHO too much boost for pump gas. I've had 2 930s and a 951 race car and I like them to keep running. The carfax showed the car being East Coast and Florida. Anyone aware of who might sell that kind of flash? I'm still pretty new to the forums and flashes.
Otherwise, pretty clean mechanically(leaking/wet pan gasket on the tip and gasping o2 sensors), 42k miles, and VERY clean body/interior. That and a price that has me kind of drooling means I'm 99% sure on the purchase. NO evidence of track time so probably not a hammered car.
Thanks for any feedback.

If true, no worries, it was probably for only a second and the ECU probably pulled timing/fuel to prevent engine damage, the only real problem when you overboost is when you have an EBC and the ECU can't pull the timing/fuel, because the EBC is over riding the ECU, then boom.

Do a search for "overboost" in this forum ... you'll find a good number of things to run down.

After thinking things over, my car isn't showing any of the issues of stumbling or irregular boost. According to my bud the shop owner (used to wrench for Bayside on 962s) the car consistently pulled 1.3-1.4 bar. No drivability/surging issues what so ever. I guess that's why he brought up and I asked about flashes.
Still wading thru the overboost search.
Thanks again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's more things to consider than purely looking at the boost level...for example, I believe some tuners will tune for the car to run a bit higher boost (I'd say 1.1-1.2 is more normal) and back it off other parameters to compensate.
If you are still uncomfortable, a shop should be able to adjust the wastegate so you run 1.1 max and 1.2 spike...

Trying to sort it out now. They're going to try to determine if the car's flashed this morning. If not, then wastegates. Like I said earlier, the car doesn't seem to have been tracked, so hopefully no major issues. Trust me, I like boost. That said, having inadvertently overboosted(in a major way) my 951 race motor, detonated, collapsed a piston and scored the block, I'm not wanting this for a DD.

This car is doing it with no problems? Because of K24's??

Kevin, you and I agree completely. Unsustainable boost.
$manager, that 's an answer to my original question. Thx. I confirmed this am that the car had normal wastegate function and appeared to be adjusted correctly. It was only a PPI. Not a diagnosis of overboost. That's why I asked my original question.
Thanks all for the ideas and answers.
I'll let you know what I find out.
