Replacement for the Greddy Profec Spec B 2
I am positive that I am having a bit of inconstancy with my Greddy as is possibly another member in UK and I am sure we are not alone with others here having various issues with these units... so what's everyone switching to.

I have had a few ... they do blow up when the wires get pinched and the head unit doesnt work.

The head unit doesn't just blow up on it's own usually. A short causes it.
I had mine go bad and after taking the wire harness from the solenoid to the head unit I found the cut wire in the harness. Something worked it's way in there.
I don't have any experience with the evc hks.

Mark you know manual boost controllers are a myth! . You all want to hear a dirty little secret? I ran one for a few weeks on my old setup though. I'm outside about to go in so I will give ya my opinions once I have a real keyboard and not my iPhone!

The great boost controller debate... Oh what fun!!!
So here is my take on it. The Greddy Profec B 2 is a nice unit but is very oldschool, yet it is simple to use. For the average user with K24/18G's, etc.. It's very simple and easy to setup and you're good to go.
I have had both the HKS and Profec. I LOVE the HKS not only for its good looks but its such simple ways of adjusting boost. The setup is so much easier than the Profec's f*cked up setting menu that was always fun to navigate through. You will need to spend a little bit of time reading the exact way you want to set stuff but for example my A and B are setup like this: A) Straight Pipes B) Exhaust ... each has different ramp up rates and stuff. Justin could elaborate on it more than myself, but that is how it is now setup.
I mean in the end if you feel comfortable adjusting boost with either then it doesn't matter. I think the HKS is a cleaner and simpler to use, others feel different. I just thought the Greddy looked like it came straight out of the movie Tron. And that aint "gangsta" in my book!

Get a manual boost controller, and see if the problem continues. Just drop it inline and leave the greddy in place.
Do you have external wastegates? If so just throw a stonger spring in (~1bar or w.e.) and vent the top to atmosphere. (instead of a MBC)
I thought my greddy was broken till I went thru EVERY connection and either re-zip tied or hose clamped the line.

if the greddy goes bad then its bad... mind you you have a solenoid as well...
I just dont see how an electronic unit sometimes gives a problem on high boost... did you take the boost limit out of the way.... maybe its pulling back because your ceiling is being met..
