2001 GT2 now in the garage

All
I've been lurking on here while I hunted for a 996 GT2. Not easy in Oz with not many being delivered (27 I was told maybe thats just series one cars?). Missed a white Clubsport 04 that failed its PPI, made an offer on a Zanzibar Red 01 GT2 but the owner changed his mind and kept it, and finally got lucky with a two owner Touring 01 GT2 in arctic silver with 30,000 kms. Hasnt been tracked, but did come with a set of stickies and wheels, and a factory cage, not fitted ever. FVD ECU, no other mods.
Drove it home last night, and to work this morning, excellent! I look forward to contributing in some way on this forum.
I'm a serial offender in the Porsche world having owned thirteen to date. I have a 1974 Carrera RS competition car we use in tarmac rallies and hillclimbs mainly, and have owned the following rare 911's
1973 Carrera RS
1992 964RS
1996 993 Turbo
2004 996 GT3
I traded the GT3 in on the GT2.
They have all been good, and its been a heck of a journey. Never in my wildest dreams as a kid did I think I could make all this happen, but as they say, if you work hard and you are kind to your mother, you never know.
Like a lot of you it seems, the 997 range, as good as they are, dont hit me in the sweet spot. For me the lack of electronic aids, and the seemingly infinite adjustability of the 996 GT2 have made it the pinnacle for me. I suspect that this will just about do it for me, with the two I have in the shed being perfect in my mind.
So, lets bring it on!
Regards
Simon

Cool

Re the PCCB's Robert I had the dealer put a one year Porsche factory warranty on the car mainly because this meant they had to do the 111 point inspection. The brakes came up fine. The car has had a very easy life. I've read all that's around on PCCB and I don't think I'm much wiser than before. I'm half expecting to change them out for steel but am happy to try to bugger them up first on principle. I can't quite believe Porsche would be putting these things on if they were as bad as people say.
Re the white car. It was in NSW. I know the fellow who bought it very well and he is deligted with it but it was not to my spec. It had a life in previous hands but had potential and has gone to the right owner for sure. It was very straight which in itself seems an achievement.
Finally I can't yet respond to PM's so to those of you who have sent them to me please resend to simonline911@gmail.com and I will respond.
In the meantime I wil try to crack the 15 post barrier.
Not tomorrow though! It's Sunday and I'm off driving!

First year for 996 GT2. Should have a 3/2001 or later production date. If not may ba a rest of world Gt2 and not a true NA GT2.

They did...in Europe and Australia. The 14 US GT2's that were sold in North America in 2001 were all 2002 model year cars.

Congrats, Simon!

Yes, the GT2 was available as a ROW car in '01, we didn't get it in the US until '02. Wayne Gretzky had an '01 and had it imported to the US because he didn't want to wait an entire year for it to be released here in the US. It was up for sale about 6 months ago. Porsche has done that to a lot of cars, the 996 was released in '98 in Europe and most of the world, but we didn't get it until '99. Hence the 993 production for the US went on until '98.
