Softronic ECU flash for GT2 only gains 40 HP ?

What do tuners do specifically in a valet file? Even if you don't let the car get any boost, at any point, the flat-6 still has enough power to cause trouble. Do they cut off spark and fuel to some of the cylinders as well? Any worry about this causing problems?

not exactly sure what they do, but there is no boost and little or no timing, and let me tell you, a Vespa could wipe the floor with your car running a valet file

Make the right choice
All I would say about the selection of the tune is to do your homework. We tested recently 5 or 6 different tunes at Bruntingthorpe up to 190mph. I think we had 12 or so Porsches from 996tt to 997tts including GT2s.
Full datalogging. The results -
Well some of the "standard" tunes were good, some were average and a few were absolutely terrible -they were pulling timing (contributing factor was also the poor std intercoolers for both the turbo and the GT2) and some of the AFRs were as low as 9!!!! above 150mph. We also had several cars into the 13 as well on WOT so a 5fpr would help as well.
The only way you are going to know is to select a tuner that allows you to send datalogs back and get adjustments done.
A good tune, good intercoolers and 5fpr on base car would produce good results. Note: Intercoolers are needed even if you are not putting in hybrids, unless of course you don't intend to track or take your car to events like Bruntingthrope.
Just my opinion.

I am looking to get my ECU flashed. I went to Softronics website and
they claim to add only 40 HP to the 996 GT2 where other tuners are showing much more.
Softronic claims to add 80 HP on 996tt (K16) but only 40 HP for X-50 & GT2 (K24) Any reason why Softronic is the lowest for GT2 & X-50's ?
Evoms claims 60 - 70 HP for the GT2.
AWE (GIAC) claims 65 HP for GT2.
I understand that there is more than just a flash to get real HP gain but
im just curious why the big difference in HP between the tuners.

Hello,
I believe you have misread as it is 58hp and with no exhaust and stock. Flashes with exhaust will tend to be higher yet not all systems work well. We also perform custom tuning as it is the ultimate canned tune

We quote wheel horsepower on www.vrtuned.com. Others will quote crank HP or bhp. If you have any questions in regards to the tuning, let me know. None of our tunes are "off the shelf" and we do offer custom tuning.
