your limitation is usually the hot side turbine wheel and the housing along with it not the cold side compressor wheel... Sure you can produce the same HP but it will be peaky and will require lots of boost.... Don't expect miracles when you do not intend to invest moneys into a good well thought out proven turbo...
just my opinion,
markski

The thing I'm trying to understand is the relationship between housing size and wheel size. Since the 16G billets seem to have the same performance as K24/ whatevers, it is confusing. Seems the K16 with a larger wheel does about the same as the larger housing with an 18 wheel. I'm not interested in the really big turbos and engine build type set ups, just mods to the factory type turbos.

No, the hot side is a K16 housing, which by the way is the exact same dimensions as the K24 hot side housing, the difference is in the outlets and the turbine wheel(from what I have been told). I have a modified K16 hot side turbine wheel as well. So the housing for the hotside is K16 and the housing for the cold side is K26. The wheels are modified K16 on the hotside and modified 997GT2 on the cold side. From the outside my K16 looks stock except for the cold side, but it is all KKK, so it fits well.

OP, you really have to pick the power range you are looking at. If you want to go huge power, a K16 hybrid is not the way. if you want to stay at 600 whp then you can get there with a K16 based hybrid. So it is your decision as to whether you will be happy with a certain power level. I am happy to stay at the 600 whp or slightly less level(I am not there yet, but can get there if I wish to with just a few more mods). Many are not and want much more power. All the well known tuners have tons of experience to tell you what setup you want. Markski is probably one of the most helpful guys on the forum.

But if you research through old threads, like I have, you learn so much. Guys like Divextreme, KPG, JoeT, Markski, CJV, woodster, and so many more, have been so instrumental in my learning about these cars, just by reading their past threads. I really have to thank all the old timers on this board for all their hard work and experience they have provided.

I have a set of Kevin's (Ultimate) k16/k26's ZC Stage 5 Turbos... I think Mark had a set of them on his car a while back and had reasonable results with them... They spool super quick and have a good consistent pull through... I would say they are a pretty good but can be a bit of a pig to tune, been back and forward a few times with Todd to get the best from them... we started with a 16g program then modified from there.

SIIX TT is infamous around these parts
Thanks.

I have already spoken with mark, so know a lttle of the k16/16g. I asked only because I saw a k16/26g on a German site and wondered if it worked well.

My ideal turbo will spool up early - 2k revs, will allow me to make progress between the endless roundabouts in the UK, and fast country road use.

Im not one for tracks, nor 60-130 times. And I'm quite a lazy driver so I dont tend to rev the car that high.

I would like a car that is super quick from say 20 to 80mph or thereabouts.
So a turbocharger that spools early over one that peaks top end would be my ideal...

So what would fit that bill or is it as much in the tune and springs etc?

Many thanks
John
