Those e36s are a stock drivetrain etc.. There street cars.. The e30 is being rebuilt now.. The thread is on bimmerboost I didnt want to link it incase thats not allowed.. Do say there full drag cars is just no true..

 

I have a BMW, I am well versed in the S54 and know what they are capable of.....but you can not compare a built motor to one with stock internals. It really does not matter as to why they have to be built wether its weak rods or high compression. You also can't compare a car with full interior and no chassis mods to a gutted drag car, even if both cars are street legal.

I am a big fan of the S54, and considered one for my E36 which I plan to convert into a track car. This conversation has went from comparing tune, diverter/ intake 996 TT's to E46 M3's with built motors and turbo kits to now including drag car E36 M3's that happen to be driven on the street. As has always been said that is comparing apples to oranges.

The M3 is an amazing car in every way, its arguably the top of the food chain as far as sedan based GT cars go. What it is not is an amazingly good basis for a drag car, and that is more than just my opinion. There are a lot of much better platforms if straight line speed is your only goal. I hope to one day have a daily driver E90 M3 DCT Alpine White with dark tint!

We are so far off subject here, the point is that someone was handed their race on a silver platter. They ran it and that is the outcome, he pulled a few 787 lengths on an obviously more powerful M3. If straight line speed is your only concern, you are wasting time with anything European to be honest. You need a Mustang or Camaro, either of which you can buy already built for the 9's for under the cost of a GT700 package.

 

Again why are we bragging about an 18 year old platform just being capable of running 9's?

 

Im not bragging.. Just putting the info out there.. Someone said they were full drag cars... I think im the only one not bragging about this or that... Im also not the comparing bmw and porsche... I dont care that i lost the race that caused all this bs.. My goal was to see how my car compared to a modded 996tt.. Not to be a drag racing superstar..

- Run your race


- Don't get mad if the other driver runs only the race that you had agreed to before and does not want to run again. You gave him his race, punch yourself in the face.

- Don't ever assume victory, regardless of power disparity.........if you never want to lose a race....than it is easy...don't race

- Know your competition, and that includes even those that have an undying devotion to believing the platform they own is the best in the world. There is always someone faster!

- Anything can happen on the streets

 

You have been very gracious about this, and that is the mark of a true car enthusiast. I understand the difficulty of launching an SMG car from a dig, and it seems so did the Porsche driver.

 

Smg isnt the hardest.. I would say its unpredictable.. And with my lack drag racing skill really isnt a match made in heaven.. Lol.. I like rolls to compare cars..

 

Scott, you are right, they are 100% drag cars. totally agreed. No one has really just created a pure tt drag car

 

They are not 100% percent drag cars.. The e36 only has slicks does that mean there 100% drag cars??

 

you mean the first one? possibly. The other two, I would disagree with you. those are nothing but straight line cars.

 

Are they running the engine that came in the car? Factory rear ends? Full interiors? Factory transmission? Full weight?

Because a lot of the fast straight line 911's are.

 

What?? That is 100% false. How is that a 100% drag car? Just because it has skinnies and big tires in the back? Doesn't Powell's car run that and is considered a street car? The only other thing that E36 might have differently for the 1/4 is taking the seats out. He will still be in the 9's and still in the 15x mph traps.

Can nothing be compared to Porsche?

 

Factory motor. Factory rear end. Interior may include taking out the seats for the track. Factory transmission. Weight is pretty much stock except for seats being taken out. Ive seen Porsche's do this as well.

Why do you people always have to come up with excuses about BMW's? I just don't understand it. Porsche is great, but its not the king of the world.

 

The e36 is all factory just build engine and turboed.. Im sure it has suspension mods but its not a full drag car.. The e30 has a built and turboed m52.. Its getting re build now custom widebody and a cage so the new build might be more drag setup.. It was gutted getting built last time i seen it.. Last time i seen the e36 it had interior.. I can link the new e30build if thats allowed.. These are max Psi cars.

 

Yep they look like bone stock cars that the owners drive to the grocery store and back, what was I thinking comparing them to drag race 911's?
