Where is "local"? If you already mentioned it, I missed it. I'm in Jacksonville, Florida... I'm pretty familiar and very hands-on with these puppies.

i hear ya. i do have "help" also. saved me countless thousands of shekels over the years.

i'm doing the basics this weekend = plugs/oil and fuel/air/cabin filters etc. will take 2.5 +/- hours and its 140.00$ worth of parts from pelican plus 9qt's of m1 5/50

a dealer would charge at least a grand, if not more.

I know it's been a long time since this thread was started. I'm in the middle of it and have come to an impass. I can't get the tank out. I broke the corner of the bracket that holds it. Going to try and order one. Can anyone help with the pics below. There is an aluminum tube with a hose attached by a weird looking fitting that seems to be in the way. Also it looks like I need to remove the water pump hose also. Help!

I can't figure out what to do with this fitting.

Water pump hose seems to be in the way too.

Did you lower the engine a little? (You don't have to remove very much)

I did a DIY for coolant tank removal a while ago... Here is the link - It may offer insight.

Yes, dropped it down and your write up has been very helpful! I got the distributor off. Now I'm trying to muscle out the tank and I'm hung in two places. First, on the back part of the coolant hose that runs across the top of the tank. It's rubber hose until it mates up to plastic at the firewall. I'm afraid I'm going to break the plastic. I think if I got the back of the tank past that line I could position it back and start again. Also, I've discovered the line that is in the way at the middle of the tank is a hydraulic line so I don't want to mess with it. The tank doesn't want to come over the top of that line and I can move it.. I have owned the car just over a year and I know two things. It's never as simple as it seems and Porsche mechanics must have tiny hands!

Its def. quite the maneuvering of the box that needs to happen, but I didn't need to remove much besides the airbox, fuel filter (was replacing at the same time), and disconnecting the hoses that are hooked up to the coolant tank itself. I did drop the motor as low as it would go on the mounts.

How do you go about lowering the engine? Back out the engine mount bolts a bit but not until no threads? I need to swap my fuel filter and oil pressure sender.

Yes, the way most do it is to support the engine with a hydraulic jack. Slide a jack stand next to the hydraulic jack. Loosen the 18mm motor mount nuts and unscrew them almost off but leave a couple of threads exposed. Slowly lower the jack & engine down to the nuts while using the jack stand as additional support. This will give you the extra couple of inches to get the filter off.

Be sure to put two wrenches on the front nut of the fuel filter to hold one while loosening the other. The other connection is a pinch type connector. Also, the fuel filter is held on by a plastic piece and big radiator hose clamp that can be snapped off the coolant expansion tank as one piece. I just discovered this in my expansion tank replacement process. When I did my fuel filter I unscrewed the clamp that holds it to the plastic piece and it was a pain to get unscrewed. I had to buy a flexible 7mm nut driver to get to it. Turns out it just snaps off the expansion tank. I haven't replaced the oil pressure sender so I can't help with that. Good luck!
