I am a relatively new owner of a used 996tt.
Love it! Great to drive - but low to ground.....too low (and yes, might have it raised a little) and I keep scraping the front splitter (even when I try to enter a angles and slow - just a nature of the roads and driveways around town). It is very nicely cracked. So, many questions (please feel free to point me in any direction as I try to learn about this and my car in general).
1) Is driving around with it cracked as bad as I assume?
(2 cracks - one long one near the portion parallel to the front bumper and another perpendicular to one of the air vents)
2) How bad would it be to remove it altogether (and leave off) - I am not into racing and rarely do I push the car to anywhere near its limits (unfortunately, but they are doing a lot of construction around town these days)
3) So replacing is about $300-400.....?
4) Is this something I can and should do by myself or let my mechanic deal with (finding and scheduling time is an issue)
5) Thoughts/insights in general on what I am sure is a common problem.....

Aero kit or non Aero?

They are replaceable (both.)

enter and exit at an angle as extreme as it will allow you.. i know that getting out of car parks with high curbs can be tricks but also turn the wheels on full lock, this raises the car slightly in the front.

i have been dirving lowered cars for a long time, but as like you im finding the porsche very trick to get around without scraping the front lip.

a great way to reduce the damage is to get the carrera 4 front lip. they are more sleek and actually look better.

How hard is it for a novice to replace?
How bad is it to drive with it cracked?

 

Easy to replace. Get the $99 stock replacment from Ebay. Virtually identical.

It will look like something is missing if you just take it off

 

All the bay ones are 250. I have a 2004 996tt. Which ones can I use? Is it really just a couple of screws? I guess I should actually look at it.

one screw each side pull old one off push new one on replace screws done 20 min. job

Yea, I bought one from a forum member. It comes rolled up in a loop. Once installed, it looks great. Also, it paints well too.

 

I also have a lowered 996 Turbo. Cracked the aerokit front splitter trying to exit a steep driveway and replaced it with the Carrera 4S splitter which gives the car much more clearance. It is easy to replace. Remove 2 screws on each side of the bumper and the splitter pulls right off. Install in the reverse order. Whole process took 30 minutes for me. If I remember correctly, I got the Carrera 4S splitter from the local dealership for about $140, but I am sure you can source it from elsewhere for cheaper.

 

Can I use other front splitters besides the ones specifically designed for a 2004 996tt?
