Don't worry this is not a tit for tat. You make a valid point by saying call them. I realise its some thing you have read and most probably dont really have any experience on so you have hit the nail on the head. I am going to call Garrett and ask them what there views on the matter.
I know the answer will be if they are used for the intended usage then no cutbacks. But I will press them for the non standard high power end application.
A 6 cylinder 3.6 ltr car pushing 700 bhp wont put the same thermal stresses on a Turbo as a 4 cylinder 2 ltr car pushing 500 bhp.
Now if they say that their manufacturing techniques mean that all their turbos no longer need cutbacks for longevity no matter what application or powere output then I am going to post my findings back to you. I Cant say fairer than that.
For sure, if that is the case why do it, but I will be honest with you and say I dont think they will commit themselves to saying "Don't do it regardless of the application".

I have K24s and I like them a lot. However if I started with K16s I would skip the K24 and just go to a Alpha28 setup. Cost of getting K24s in addition the cost of turning them into K24/18G hybrids is around the same as A28s. A28s will give you better spooler and more top end potential, not to mention a more efficient unit.
I already have K24s on the other hand so most likely my next step will be an 18g+injectors setup, just because it is cost effective.
My car made 508-516rwhp on a dynojet on K24s, 1.1bar, 93 octane, FVD tune, cargraphic exhaust, everything else stock.

Clipped Turbine Wheel
When an angle is machined on the turbine wheel exducer (outlet side), the wheel is said to be "clipped". Clipping causes a minor increase in the wheel's flow capability; however, it dramatically lowers the turbo efficiency. This reduction in efficiency causes the turbo to come up on boost at a later engine speed (ex. increased turbo lag). High performance applications should never use a clipped turbine wheel. All Garrett GT turbos use modern unclipped turbine wheels.

We've done probably 5 of such set ups and got good results on actually 600 and 700 rwhp applications...

i was asking only about the swap between k16 and k24 and everybody jumped on the 18g's
the cost to send them to blouch and them back to romania is bigger that the price that i want to pay for them, not a good business

Stock k24's with simple flash and exhaust can't make 500wrhp, no way, they simply can't flow so much air !! I'm running an X50 with exhaust, tune for 1.2/1.3bar, headers, hoses, dvs, and figure I'm probably making 530/540ps... I recently raced an FVD 997tt with exhaust, headers etc, rated at 570ps and there was nothing in it to 180mph.
FVD themselves would probably only rate their X50 tune with exhaust at something like 520ps, so how is the car making that at the wheels ?
Perhaps Markski can shed some light on this.... Mark can K24's stock, flow 600hp+ ?

One of my first mods years ago was a fvd race k24 stage 3 flash exhaust filter DVs and I dynoed 480 max. It was peaky ran 1.1 flickering 1.2 ran 11.6 and trapped 124 consistantly. That was my car. That's all I can say.

Throw on an exhaust and you've got 500 rwhp. My 2 had a flash, DVs, 1 bar springs, and a Europipe II and it produced 506 rwhp, so it is possible. It was after all on a dynojet infamous for generous numbers.

anyway i would look for a set of used 18gs here online you will find some at a good deal ,sell your current ones and there you go , get the programing you need from markski and your set .

I would encourage you to look at a K24 compressor map, as that wheel can do 29-30 lb/min of air @ 1.3 bar @ well above 70% efficiency. That's plenty for 500rwhp.

Stock K24's with a flash and exhaust can certainly produce a quick car (as Prodigy has proven), but they are not even close to a K24/18G setup. They add another 100rwhp/100rwtq.
