Question Driver's side turbo leak! Again!

Okay, about 5 years ago my Driver's side turbo started leaking and blue smoke came from the Driver's side exhaust. Well, after replacing it, it is happening again. 5 years later.
I would like to replace it or tighten anything that may be causing this. My question is, what kind of turbo is the OEM on a 2001 996TT, secondly, are the L and R turbos different, meaning: Would I need to replace it with a Driver's side turbo?

Thirdly, when looking online what do you call it besides turbo? Whenever I search Turbo, 996 Turbo, Porsche 911 Turbo etc., I get the WHOLE car, not just the turbo. Sorry if this is confusing. I'm trying to source a new Driver's side turbo.

Best,
Keith

The drivers side is different. Make sure if you have K16 or K24's. It's the main part of the turbo or center cartridge that goes bad and is best to replace cheap rather than repair.

Call Sharkwerks, Alex probably has a shelf full of them.

Search for "turbocharger"...It's a KKK (brand) K16 (turbocharger) or a KKK K24. Likely a K16. Only GT2's, X50's and Turbo 'S's came with k24's...if it's stock.

Ahh, thanks. Dayum, new Turbochargers are a pretty penny. I think Rob at S-Car-Go may just install one one as a freebee and charge me for 3hrs. I was thinking of just doing it myself, but that does seem like a good deal.

unless you have an x50, you have K16's which you should be able to replace fairly easily.
