KJM3 is infamous around these parts
I'm sure McLaren sold every McLaren F1 they ever made, so I'm always curious as to why they still haven't made a "sequel" to it a decade later?

they did, but screwed up by partnering with a luxury auto maker to produce it.

You are both wrong. There is still a brand new F1 for sale in London.

The original F1 was slated to sell roughly 400 units McLaren barely got 1/4 of those orders. It was a resounding commercial failure. They canned the project when they realized that they would never got the orders they thought they would.

FYI Murray missed a lot of the targets he set for the F1 and dont forget the superbly expensive maintainence bills that come with the F1.

Interesting to read a rumor that the Ferrari Enzo successor could go the McLaren F1 route and place the driver front and center with two smaller seats to the side. Easy to homolgate /reallocate a small production run car for the whole world .
Ain't gonna happen - aging arthritic boomers can't deal with it and younger burgers/burrito/fries- raised "supersized" buyers will never fit .

From the outset, McLaren made it clear that the SLR was NOT the succesor to the McLaren F1.

That is so badass. BMW engine, mclaren chasis can't go wrong. I am surprised Mclaren didn't team with BMW, it seems more in line with their thinking than MB...............

Actually, they had to make it a racecar in order to sell them!!! It was not planned as a track car but a street car. When they saw the sales figures, they just had no other choice.

edit - the video is awesome!!! My jaw dropped when Tiff floors it!!! Superb car ... the price tag today still makes me cry! lol

I had a chance to sit in a McLaren. The view out the front is unbelievable. It feels like there's nothing in front of you. That view, with the great acceleration, makes the car very thrilling.

Few people know that the car performs relatively poorly around turns. The video shows the body lean. R&T magazine measured the skid pad and slalom at .86g and 64.5 MPH. Many cars are faster than that. For example, a stock 996 TT is .96g and 67.8 MPH.

Yep, I was amazed at the roll in that video! Still, the car is just such an amazing accomplishment - even if it were today vs. 10 years ago!
