stroke 1 year 6months later

in feb of 09 i suffered a stroke , lost the use of my entire left side, spent a month and some days in the hosp.

i thanked you guys then and i thank you now !!!! those long days of depression were shortened a great deal due to the posts from fellow sixspeeders.... really thanks this is a no shiXXX statment you guys gave me hope....

ya never think what you lose when your left arm and leg just refuse to work , take 10 min and try living with no left side, it willl be good for you...

after tha year and a half, driving is 80% back the twisties are not very good. but the clutch foot works fine(even with the lwf).
yesterday i played my third nine holes (46) hit the ball solid just not very far, and best of all i won $2.00 but forgot to collect. and i'm typing with two hands (very slow)

soooooooo anyway god boobid if it happens to you or yours but if it does hang in there it will get better...i'm still limping around and my arm and leg feel very tight at times , but it's way better.. well almost i still can't spell but never couldand as far as caps go do ya see any on this post???

oh i clayed the car yesterday, no big improvement but a fun job for the first few min THANKS

Steve;

I have been on this forum for a long time but have not posted much. I have read and enjoyed your posts over the years. I have a coworker who suffered a stroke last year and with therapy and encouragement he is back part time.
Hang in there and keep up the positive attitude. Your welcome to come over and clay my car anytime!

Cheers

Kevin

a storke is usualy caused by a blocked blood vessel which shuts off blood to the brain thus killing brain cells.. not always temperory , your moving parts then recieve limited signals from your brain so the simply don't work, they become tence and feel as you have a stick in your arm and can not get it to move... as time goes by if your lucky your brain rewires it's self and you improve. mine however was caused by high blood pressure (280) it's now 120 to 134 in the safe range sooo check your blood pressure and cut down on the posta

I'm glad to hear that you are well. Forums are addicting.. and luckily we have a great platform here with good people. Best of luck to you as you continue in recovery. I'm sure driving the 911TT is so much more satisfying now then before.. we take so many things for granted in life.

Steve, hard to believe it's been that long already. I remember how bummed you were afterwards. You were talking about having to give up golf and sell your car. I even offered to hold onto your car for you so it gets used :P Though you were upbeat about it because I'm sure things like that will put life into perspective, you were really bummed at the prospect of having to give up two of the things you love most (not counting family of course). I remember you were typing in all caps and your spelling was atrocious (still is :P ). We had to endure reading posts with words such as FGREBUZY I still don't know what that means and I'm pretty sure you don't drive a OPTRVSE TRIBL but if you do you it has two turbos hanging out it's back end. When most people would have packed it up, you kept typing away and kept the prospect of one day driving the P-car and playing a round of golf again as your motivation to go through painful therapy and keep fighting. I as well as many others sincerely wished you the best but I remember one particular 6speeder (can't remember who) that had gone through something similar and he really seemed to give you inspiration that you may actually be able to drive your car again and not have to sell it. I couldn't imagine something like this happening to me and not being extremely depressed, but you remained upbeat and seemed to be improving by the day and it was evident because the caps lock came off, words stop running together and the spelling...well ok, it improved slightly too lol Words were now decipherable and you now had a PROSHCE TRUBO in your garage, (again, I'm not sure what kind of car that is, but apparently it too, has twin Turbos). The Thread you made when you finally were able to get behind the wheel was fantastic and inspiring. Your leg was still weak and if I remember correctly, you stalled the car. But you were able to use the clutch and just take the car out for a simple drive. You came back and posted about it as if you had just driven the most beautiful German scenic mountain backroads onto the unrestricted portion of the autobahn. To say you had fun would be the worlds biggest understatement. Though we couldn't see you, we could tell the grin on your face was ear to ear. Since then, you've given us occasional updates and reminders. It's amazing to see how much you've improved in that short time. Though not completely void of reminders such as a slightly weaker hand, arm, foot or leg, you seem to have pretty much returned to doing all the things you love most with a whole new appreciation for life. Along the road to recovery, you finally put a PORSCHE TURBO in your garage and the game of "What's Steve trying to say?" has withered away.

I'm really happy for you and your recovery. Thanks for the reminder that this could happen to anyone at anytime. Just look at Brett Michaels and how he had a brain aneurysm that nearly took his life at such a young age. Anytime without notice and none of us are immunized to life. Thanks for reminding us how precious it is. I wish you the best of luck on your continuing recovery.
~Scott

Great to watch your improvement on 6 speed. Glad some of your favorite pastimes are starting to bring back some enjoyment. Keep up all the hard work & sometimes just close your eyes & relax it works wonders.

Steve that is great news on your recovery. I am always thinking about that as I have HBP also. In fact I thought I had a stroke about 6 weeks ago as I lost my vision in my left eye. Turned out to be a torn retina. No fun, but I did catch it in time and finally have my eye sight back.

Sounds like you are doing great and your positive outlook probably made the biggest difference in your recovery.

Keep it up! (not your BP)
