intercooler ducts

Are they necessary? A friend bought a 996 turbo that has Potomotive 3,5" intercooler and the ducts were removed. Should we buy new one and try to fit them on?

Yes. The ducts direct the air correctly.;otherwise there's a good chance the air will go around the IC. You will have to trim the ducts a little to fit the IC's. It wasn't much, mostly just the 'lip' where they fasten together.

yeah that's what i though, my problem is i don't have the ducts, i suppose previous owner threw them out, we just realised that when we took the bumper off. These most cost a lot at the dealer, man that sucks.

The upper ducts run $200-250 each, part number 996 575 657 00.

Find a member here that has a Protomotive style intake and buy them used.

Look on eBay for wrecking yards parting out cars. I bet you can find the ducts for pretty reasonable price. I know Oklahoma Foreign has a 2003 parts car that they are parting out.

Put out a WTB in the marketplace forums. There are several members here that use a Proto style intake system that have abandoned the ducts.

Or try Suncoast - our sponsor here usually has prices that are significantly below dealer retail.

Can you tell me more on the proto style intake? Do you mean with an air filter that takes the air at the same place as the intercooler?

Because this car also has a evoms intake piping but i doubt it has anything to do with it.

Those that have converted to a blow through intake system may have abandoned the ducts. They may be willing to sell the duct to you.
