I'm betting it will be a huge seller for Porsche.

Why don't you justify your opinion? what is pointless about a mid engined porsche coupe that arguably handles better than its big brothers?

I think there's a ton of guys out there who have jobs that don't pay well enough to afford a 911, who would love to drive a Porsche, and who couldn't bring themselves to buy a Boxster because of the "chickster" image. They will be all over this car -- there's nothing feminine about it.

If you don't have anything to say, why post?

It's not even that for me. I just bought a 997S. If I drove the Cayman and had as much fun driving it as I do my 997S, I would save myself thousands and jump in one.

I am not the type of person who cares what people think of me and how much money I have. I would not spend more money for a Carrera for the sake of spending more money and maybe impressing more people.

I agree, but that wasn't really my point. If they're as good as early reports indicate, a lot of them will be sold on the merits regardless of price. I'm just saying that a lot of guys will jump at an entry-level Porsche that isn't burdened with the "chickster" baggage.

I'll say it again : imagine a 997 GT3 which is a coupe with no sunroof , which already has lost it's rear seats , suddenly with it's motor moved ahead of the rear axle and losing another 2-300 lbs . Add active differential to help put down that power since it's weight distribution lacks the rear engined 911's abilty to launch itself out of corners . That would be my dream " Cayman RS" . Won't happen from PAG though 'cause that could wipe out 997 GT3 and possibly many 997 Turbo sales . But we can dream .
OTOH, RUF will be licking it's chops on this platform, you can be sure of that- I can foresee a huge demand for a lightweight , stripped 2700 lb mid engined Porsche coupe with 400 normally aspirated horsepower and an 8200 redline.
Where do I sign up .

I definitely agree with you fdb996c2. I just get a little tired of seeing people stick their noses up at other cars on internet forums. As a car enthusiast, I don't know how you could deny this car respect as some have.

I also hear a rumor that Posche is working on a clubsport version. I think it was in Autocar, FWIW

If the clubsport version is a reality (I've heard it several places, including from a salesperson), it will open up a new level of club racing for PAG, and I for one would be all over it.

For the record, I think that "chickster" crap is absurd. I spent a weekend autocrossing a Boxster S a while back and had a blast. It is a terrific car. I think Todd is right -- a clubsport version of the coupe could open up a whole new chapter of Porsche racing.

The thing is that the 911 has been a brand name for over 40 years. Whatever car that Porsche releases will be called a girly car or "not a real Porsche" (Boxster, Cayenne, 944). This car is certainly excellent, but it's not a 911. If would buy the S without hesitation. I you want to show off, buy a Ferrari (no offense F-car owners).
The Boxster is a great car, specially when you look at the used car market. Though a couple of mor hp wouldnät hurt it.

With the extra chassis stiffness I bet it'll handle well. Too bad they won't put the big motor in it.

Clubsport Boxster= 911 killer. A mid-engined coupe with decent motor and relatively low weight would kick a$$ around a track. Let us pray.
