Yup, its just important for those buying used turbos to understand that the power potential of the current A28 its much different then older Alpha 28's.

If you're buying these turbos on the used market, understand fully what version your buying before you pull the trigger!

Jake I expect you to be at the Mile this October. We will be providing transportation since walking is so overated!

If you would like to donate some kind of turbo for it, I will not refuse it. There will be a few other RZR's out there and I want an advantage!

The different variety Ive used, seen, tuned.
Old style (k16 exhaust housing) 2860 journal bearing,
Old style 2680 ball bearing.
New style (cast stainless steel exhaust housing) ball bearing 2860
New style journal bearing 2860
New style ball bearing 2868 billet
For the layman, can you tell us what these differences really equate to? I believe i have the Old Style (K16 exhause housing) 2860 Journal bearing in my GT610 kit. Am i at that much of a disadvantage as opposed to the new style?

I believe all the EVOMS GT610 kits came with A28s. I think the kit came after the turbo...

Well, according to Tony's post, there are two different types of A28's. The 'old' style referenced in my post and the newer style. What are the differences between those?? That is where my confusion lies.

And, if anyone knows:
-When was the "old" style taken out of commission?
-What are the visible differences?

The old EVOMS GT turbos were Garrett GT28s in a K-16 housing, I believe. The A28s have a Tial housing. There have been changes reported in the A28s but the "newer" ones have failed to impress me as more powerful than the older ones based on track times up to now.

Exactly...

Fact is, our "Alpha 28 based" turbochargers make 800hp on pump gas, through 200 cell cats. All day. Everyday. Spool faster than stock K16's too.

We call it our P800 package for the 996TT.

My out of the box alpha 28s gave me 650 whp. on race gas.

I ran 5.35 60-130 and consistent 5.5s

On Switzer and AMS dyno that's 850 whp
