BuddyG's Porsche Problems
#32
I am extremely happy with my probably better than Ruf performance for about 1/5 the cost. Hell, I can have my engine rebuilt and still have money left over. Many may prefer the Ruf route, and I have no problem with that, but I am truly thankful for the US tuners.

Buddy, I am sorry for your woes. It sounds like you have had a frustrating few months. Good luck to you! Unfortunately, I must support the tuners in this case. No one twisted your arm to build the s**t out of your car for max HP, and then beat on it relentlessly at every opportunity. Mods should involve a balance of power vs. reliability. Only you can make the decision on which side gets mere attention. I am sorry to see that this unfortunate scenario has gone to public opinion. Maybe the best choice for you would have been a stock 911 with full extended warantee, as it seems to be more of a Porsche dealer type complaint. Sorry to be so harsh. Good luck!

Hey guy's, if fishes were wishes paupers would fly. I've seen three pages of BS. Six months or a year down, one tuner is bad and another isn't. Turbo's are bad and yet they are not returned. A cup plus of sand in the intake. Someone driving it hard or missing a shift? I've read three pages of Payton Place and no one can definitively prove what is wrong.
It would think by now this would have been proven. Or am I missing something. Anyone perform a leak down check? Do the codes back up this "claimed" missed shift? How about breaking down the motor? Or is everyone just guessing?

Usually, the truth is right in front of you.... in the middle.
Hope you guys settle the problem( on both sides).

To be fair, one of the main things to consider is that Buddy and PES were really pioneering into new territory with this Stage 5 package. His car was producing big peak HP well before the GIAC tuners started offering the GT700/800 packages, which seem to be direct evolutions of what they learned from Buddy's car. Obviously Buddy had the ***** to shell out the cash and tread into new territory, and I hope the tuners will keep that in mind. He really was a big advocate for PES and EVO. My hope and intuition tells me that the boys at PES will step up to the plate and somehow work out a reasonable solution with Buddy.

Just like most disputes there are 3 sides to this story. It would seem both are reasonable and they can find some common ground to work it out without having to air it out on the forum. I'm sure Buddy was/is frustrated by the lack of communication which is why he decided to post and maybe get their attention, which he did. Let's leave it to them and wait for the result.
As for Ruf being the best, they should be. #1, they have been doing it longer. #2, they are located very close to Porsche itself and probably have a working relationship like no other could have. #3, they charge a lot of money for their products and stand behind them. #4, they have the proper testing ground in a place where the speeds they create are even legal. The US tuners have none of the previous advantages and still manage to make a competetive product for a fraction of the cost. In time we might see one or 2 evolve in a Ruf-like fashion but it will take many years and will be even harder now that Ruf has established a US presence. To infer Ruf is quality and the others aren't is horse-****. Ruf has lot's of experience on their side and if you want to go with the most-expensive, most-proven, most backed-up tuning out there then you get their stuff.

Well, I have no idea what the missed shift is about because that never happened. I also don't believe I beat the **** out of the car by doing a track event or driving it from California to Michigan. Lots of people do track events and cross country drives. I happen to be well trained as a driver with years of experience with Skip Barber in open wheel cars and as an ASA driver in stock cars.
Second, I did not try to tuner bash I don't think I did anything but tell my side of the story. And no Jeremy for the last many months I have left so many messages for Tony and he has NEVER called me back. So after 6 months I post this on 6speed and all of a sudden you guys respond. Go figure.
It seems to me that EVO, PES and I have all been involved with this car so maybe it should be fixed and we all take a third of the cost. I would be willing to do that. I will await your reply.
It was also a good point that my car was a quasi development car for you guys in the Stage 5 development as you guys did new stuff to my car and made more power than you did with that first car you did. Seems to me that would be worth something to you.
Who knows I just want my car fixed so I can sell it. Meanwhile over the last year I have had no use of my car whatsoever.
Just frustrated that's all why doesn't Tony call me he has my number.

When I first took the car to PES they told me that one of the flanges (not sure about the correct word) was like bent open and dirt and sand had gotten into the turbo. They checked the car out at the dealer and found no problems with the engine at all.
Second yes I did do a track event after I picked the car up. I guess I did not know that I had to follow a certain breakin? The engine wasn't new it was new turbo's. I had driven it back some 700 miles from NJ to MI.

Buddy, for what it's worth, here is my relatively uninformed opinion of the situation.
#1. This is primarily a PES problem as they received the majority of the money, not Todd's.
#2. When they found sand in the intake, you should have assumed your plant was on borrowed time. Modding it heavily, probably significantly shortened that borrowed time.
#3. I agree with you about the break-in. You didn’t go inside the case so what are you breaking in?
At this point, I think you need to give PES a shot at fixing the car. Who pays for it should be a function of what is wrong.
If it’s the valves, I would think yours. If it’s the rings, I would think yours. If it’s holes in pistons, I would say theirs. I think the only thing you can do is to trust them start to dig into it (leakdowns, and then probably pull it).
Again, my own personal view would be it’s likely to be your problem and I would get a commitment from them to fix it with higher priority and get a discount for such poor customer service in the past. If they offer you a little more discount because of the prior work you had done, I think that would be good business for them, but not necessary on their part.
Just my opinion, hope it helps.
