Wondering about pentosin
When I first started working back through the threads and saw references to pentosin I thought it was some unique fluid just used by Porsche. But when I googled the word it turns out to be the name of a company that makes many automotive lubricants and fluids.
Why is the fluid discussed in many post such a fire hazard? Is it just because the location of the reservoir and plumbing increased the likelihood of leaks onto an exhaust system? Or is Pentosin's version unusually flammable?

i think its such a hazard as most of the people owning porsches dont do their own mechanics and dont pay attention to these things. and also its hard to see things in our engine bay so it could be leaking and not even know then eventually get a fire going and be real bad.
its just an annoying power steering/clutch fluid system that fails

Pentosin
Pentosin,
A couple things you should know...
1)Very corrosive to rubber... if it spills on coolant lines it can weaken the line to where it rips or swells. Clean off immediatley with soap and water or even simple green if in a easy to reach spot.
2) It has a low flash rate. The Pentosin is on top of the motor.. near the rear of the car where the power steeing pump is. If you spill while filling it up or if something fails in that area it can leak on the motor and flame up.
Thats what I know anyway.
