you know how they make those t-shirts that have logos of products, that are re-written?

i can see it now, all the gay folks in south beach, with these T's on that read: "Gayman."

Not that there's anything wrong with that. 'Jerry Seinfeld"

Your Boxster is nowhere near the sports car of either of my 911's.

And not too many women drive GT 911's either... and grayhead old guys who do drive them will blow by your little ***** car with ease.

That being said, I think the Boxster makes a great car for my little sister who is in high school. I thought it might be a great first car for her. Handles well, but accelerates like a castrated 911.

The only Boxster that can be called superior to the 911 is called the Carrera GT. Plain and simple. I bow down to that super Boxster any day of the week.

I don't hate on Boxsters, but when you start putting down 911's, you're asking to be berated.
ha ha! struck a nerve.

i don't hate on 911s, just the image-tunnel-vision folks that think anything other than a 911 is a non-Porsche. it is silly. all the fastest race cars are mid-engined (see the C-GT). rear-engined has some advantages, and certainly make things fun, but when it comes to "best place to put the engine", at least so far, mid-engined is it.

you know and i know it is only the artificial restriction on HP which keeps the boxster/cayman from eclipsing the 911s performance. and porsche knows it, too, which is why they do it. then again, it is much more fun to throttle-steer a 911 than a boxster.

truth is they are both awesome cars and we are lucky to have them, which is why i have both. although i would rather my tt be a gt2 so i could ditch the AWD and the weight and the mushy clutch.

as for the "gayman" name...i am sorry, but middle/high school level put-downs haven't bothered me for quite some time. if they would bother you, i suggest some other form of ego-boosting than a car.

Your statement is a little simplistic. You can strap on a turbo or supercharger to your Boxster and it will still not be as fast as a GT2. Perhaps you should get some seat time in one to see what I'm talking about.

The Carrera GT is light years ahead of the Boxster in many, many respects. Look at the pushrod suspension alone... On the other hand, would a Carrera GT be as fast on the racetrack as a full race car like a front-engined Prodrive 550 GTO or even a GT3-RSR? Absolutely not.

Mid-engine layout is only as good as the way you execute on it. If it is so inherently superior why isn't the Challenge Stradale faster than the GT3-RS? Because so many factors go into handling.

One of the things I don't like about mid-engine is that although it is very neutral, it doesn't give you much warning before you hit the limit and the car goes into a spin. The Boxster is a neat little car for what it is, but there is a lot besides the engine that would need to be changed before trying to compete with the best 911's. Like suspension, chassis and brakes.

What you SHOULD BE advocating is not so much for the Boxster/Cayman to have bigger engines or forced induction, but rather for the 911 to be engineered as a mid-engined car. Who knows? Maybe one of these days it will.

In the meanwhile, if you like handling so much, ditch the TT and get a GT3.

i have pondered that very thought (ditching the tt for the gt3), but i need the car to do reasonable double-duty as a street car, and everyone says the gt3 is just a little rough around the edges for that role. i was going to go test drive one today, but got caught at work. (sigh)

oh, i don't disagree the 911 has superior components besides the engine, but i was referring to the overall chassis dynamics. you have a valid point about the 360 CS and the GT3-RS, but then again, Porsche did make its uber-car mid-engined, so that says even they recognize the inherent advantages of the layout.

from driving my boxster at the track quite a bit, i would say it isn't nearly as spin-happy as people think. yes, it is harder to catch if it really gets away from you (especially as a newbie), but the wild unexpected spins definitely were replaced with small, correctable tail-outs as i became more and more familiar with the car. i found it VERY controllable and adjustable with the brake and throttle as i learned to control the car at the limit.

i would love to get some seat time in a gt3 at the track. but i think the tail-happy qualities of the 911 platform would make me even more of a sliding, tire-eating hooligan than i am in the boxster. lol

Could the Cayman be Porsche's way of evolving the 911 into a mid enigned car for the future, and the eventual elimination of the rear engined Porsche's as we know them? A mid-engined car truly makes more sense if Porsche wants to take performance to the next level, don't ya think?

I agree the name sux tho

The hysteria over this name is quite funny. As it should be, the merits of the car will be decided on the street/track, not by the script on the trunk.
