996 Turbo LED Taillights- how can we get em made?
#151
I would love to have LED lights but would never pay $1500 for a pair. I will wait and eventually someone will come out with a set that sells for the same as they do on ebay for the NB cars.

I feel ya. That's the ballpark $$ number that I was given by a friend who manufactures plastic/leds here in the US. We have to remember that people/companies are motivated by the prospect of making a profit.
With only 25k or so Wide body cars, we would BARELY make the standard minimum (assuming that all cars are still on the road) that the typical factories that manufacture these pieces will expect.
Sometimes, if they do cut you a break for a low initial order, its usually predicated on the agreement of a larger subsequent one.
By my gross estimate 112K NB cars were made worldwide. With only 25k WB ones (10k turbo,15k C4S) made, its a difficult production decision to make...unless of course assuming a higher price or a higher proportion of consumers among the given demographic.
The interesting thing here is that typically all mods come out for the turbo before the NB cars - its an unwritten rule that the owners of higher priced cars will spend more on the car - hence the porsche/turbo "tax" on many aftermarket items. The manufacturer knows its a small pool and the owner will pay. However, in this case - the 996tt is now a 10 year old car - with a completely different demographic owning them than 5-10 years ago.
What I would suggest to people who really want this is to see if theres a way to adapt the NB lights to the WB cars - that will be way more cost-effective, and prolly look pretty cool if done right.
cheers!

If I could guaranty that price would not drop it may be worth it. But seeing how much the regular led's are going for, we get ours for 1500 and then 6 months later all the others that did not get it on it, get the same thing for 1/3 the price.

I'd have to agree with the general consensus that $1,500 is pretty steep. I would also suggest that a company that already produces the NB version of the lights would have significantly less trouble and expense in creating the WB version because they would only need to change the mold. The internal circuitry should be identical and would not need any development at all.

not really - the die/mold cost is fixed...
sorry

I am in for 1500

Does the $1500.00 include shipping?

I do believe that WB pricing on Taillights should be higher than NB but honestly for $1500 I will keep my old ugly ones. I understand that companies blah blah blah but I just can't justify it at least on my car. Some of you other guys have really invested big money with great performance modifications and would probably get them but I personally don't think I would. I thought a good target price is around $900 max but maybe I'm crazy.

$1500 would be stupid!
#162
Lol- this is got to be the most complicated and expensive production.

1500 is too much for me ..... it's just led lights for the back. i would say 500 or maybe 750 tops

i just modded my stock lights tonight. changed all bulbs to 68smd bulbs and cut and spliced the rear fog light to the running lights. now i have a red bar all the away across tail light. Doesnt look to bad,
