enclosed car trailer for 996 turbo: what size?
Does anyone use an enclosed trailer to transport their 996 turbo?
What size is recommended and which brands are most popular?
I had a haulmark motorcycle trailer 10 yrs. ago and it was very high quality
Lastly, what are the price ranges?
TIA

I just sold a 20' x 8' PACE enclosed cause it was not wide enough for the turbo...I think 20 x 10' would suffice that way you can walk on the sides when the car is in without rubbing the paint, trying to squezze by. I may pick up another one in the spring

Ron,
Don't know if this helps, but, the guy who shipped my Z8 to florida, had a 2 car job, I believe 9x20. It fit Ryan's GT2 and my Z8 and he towed it with an F350 or 450. It was obviously enclosed and the rear door went down to the ground and could be tilted up so low cars won't scrape. Well, that's the idea anyway, the front lip spolier under my Z8 in front of the wheels was scraped so I didn't exactly work

Also keep in mind that a trailer may be wide it also has wheel wells that stick up inside the trailer lowering your accessible width...go 10' wide it will make trailing the car much more convenient... I'll be getting a 20' x10' if I ever decide to get another one

This forums is to funny. Everything that crosses my mind during the day is posted that night lol. Anyways Get the 9' wide Haulmark. They are the best quility and will last years. The team I used to work for used a 10' wide to fit a viper with 345, and my supra with 315 on the back. We had alot of room to walk around and would even squeeze by with slicks mounted on rims when we were in a rush at the track. Im buying this 20" L and 10" W trailor for this coming season. If you need any suggestions of a place to buy pm me.

I use a Pace 24' by 8' I believe. I have an 85' Turbo that fits no problem. I also used it to transport a 97' Talon. Now I am going RSR widebody with the 85', measured everything out, should fit fine, with 1" to spare on either side. I say a standard width trailer will be fine, as long as you are careful, and having a side access door is nice to (climb out the window, lots of room).

This is a great site I came across.

For normal transport you only need a 16-18ft. I use a 20' to store spare wheels, race gas tanks, and a tool box.

I have a 24' Pace Shadow GT - it is 102" wide (the widest legal trailer in Calif.). I fit my GT2 or my Cup car no problem. Your car is about 14' long, so 18' is the minimum with 20 - 24 giving you some room for other stuff.
As far as width goes, what you need to be concerned about is the width between the wheel wells and the height of the wheel wells, as they may keep you from opening your door if your car is low, so you will have to climb in and out of the window. In addition consider ordering it 6" to 1' over normal height, so you don't hit your head all the time. Finally when you order be sure to get a 3' (or longer if they offer it) ramp extension. That makes it much easier to load your car.
Another key factor in your trailer size purchase is what your tow vehicle is. I have a F350 Diesel. My trailer weighs around 4,600 lbs empty and fully loaded is about 8,500 lbs. Be sure the total loaded weight won't be too much for your tow vehicle. In addition remember an enclosed trailer does not tow like an open trailer, it is not very aero! It is like towing a wall, so it will not feel like towing an 8,500 lb boat or open car trailer, which is much more aero.
Makes include Pace, Haulmark, Featherlight (top of the line, and in price as well), Wells Cargo, Gold Rush, Racer etc.... There are many brands. Buy what is close to you and offers good quality and service. See what people have at track days and see what you like. Regardless be sure you buy a trailer with Torsion axels - as they tow far superior.
Price will vary based on options and level of interior finish. But figure between $8,000 and $25,000 for a 20' to 24' nichely equipped. The higher end of the range would include a generator and maybe AC.
Good luck.
