Exactly. My philosophy is to make as much power as I can on as lowest boost possible.

Also you say you are running 99octane. Since you are in Scotland I am assuming that is 99RON which is about 93-94US octane. Just an FYI so you don't blow up your engine in the future thinking you are running race fuel and turn the boost up like alot of ppl out here do

Good point , yes that 99 Ron fuel. I dont know the uS way of octane calculation. Although from your post I now gather its different.lol
I'm not one for maths power, but yes it does feel strong. thats the main thing.
I dont want another session on the dyno, as they tend to use 3rd gear most of the time.
I was thinking of getting some drive times where I didn't have to change up to 4th gear. I have a durametric but not a Pbox.

Turbo choice is hard, just been reading the previouse post about the A28's etc I think for the next mod I must get the choice correct.

Well it all comes down to your budget and what you expect from your car. You can throw down a little bit more money on top of your existing upgrades for a K16upgrade and you can get 600whp at 1.4-1.5 bar and have ALOT of fun!

With my setup I should be pushing that same power at 0.8-0.9 bar though, so imagine what can be done at 1.4-1.5. Will be in the 750whp+ range. Race fuel even more. But my turbos are big, expensive and the supporting mods are both expensive and extensive.

What you can also do is get the large turbo now and work slowly on building your car. You could run low boost with just the larger turbos and 5Bar FPR until you can move up and add the rest. A little bit every month. Intercoolers, headers, Y-Intake, Boost Controller, fuel lines etc.

Within a year you'll have what you want.

It's all about what youwant from your car. Everybody thinks to themselves "Yea I want more power". But you have to sit and think where you will be able to use that power, how you will be able to use it. Do you need top end power or lower end torque. Fast spool (K16s or A28s) vs. Top End (GT30s)

Stock characteristics on minimal coin and ALOT of fun....go with the K16s.

Alot of power, expensive setup (20-30Gs) monster car go for the A28 or GT30s.

I agree, Turbo choice is almost like choosing a car all over again. Different types have different strengths and weaknesses (and costs). I'll never go above 600 whp because of how I drive my car (road course) so I want to make sure I get the most efficient 600 whp I can get, on the top and bottom end.

I must say some well informed and intuitive posting by just about every one on here.
I did post an a different topic about modding, and you know what I have realised that I have contradicted my self. I got it wrong when I bought my new K16s when my old ones bust. I should have listened to many 6speed members and gone for the best I could at the time with mods in mind. There's some ones signature on here " Do it right, fist time" or something like that. There is truth to that. I really do have t think on this.
Good point, 800whp amd where to use it. 500/600whp and just have fun ( or 800whp and still have fun ...) Why couldn't I be addicted to video games or something like that. Why does it have to be power. LOL

Thanks for any information

As many have already addressed, the K16's can be one of the quickest spooling turbochargers out there for the 996TT, the absolute quickest being a set of properly tuned and supported Alpha 28's.

The more peak power you make, typically you lose driveability and low end torque. Not true with our P800 package, spools quicker than our P700 K16 based package. 800hp through 200 cell catalytic converters on 93 octane (98RON), all day, everyday. Likely capable of 850hp on race fuel.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

AMS billet 16's are fast as hell with the right supporting mods, loose some up top but dont travel to "mexico" often to do 150mph+ pulls because its just very stupid, you could have 2000whp but its useless if you cant apply it to the ground or can never get the boost up enough on public roads. Decide what YOU want from the car and make a build accordingly.

This is an interesting thread. I, too, am planning on upgrading to either the billet K16 or the A28s. Both seem to have plenty of potential. I am currently running a GT28/k16 setup that isn't available anymore. So I am already getting 600+whp and I don't need anything more.

My concern is for longevity and availability of parts. I was very frustrated to hear that my turbos are no longer available, as I might have a small problem with one of them. I am curious which replacement (billet k16 or A28) is likely to be available two or three years from now. As it stands for me, instead of replacing one turbo I need to replace both and have the car re-tuned. I don't want to do this every two years.

Thoughts?

Tial can still service your turbos and fix them just cause they have a better wheel to put in now doesn't mean yours are unservicable what you can do if one goes bad send both in to get billets installed.

I have similar turbos n I would get A28's if I put a new set on

Unfortunately my turbo problem is with the wastegate actuator assembly and several turbo manufacturers have said that there is no way to repair them. I would need to get a k16 housing and try to have it machined correctly. All in all it would just be simpler and not that much more money to replace the setup.

Regardless of which option you choose you will love EPL. I have been very pleased with their service and professionalism. I just data logged my car and Tony tweaked my tune for a little more power up top. If you are on the fence you can drive my car and see what you think..

The 16's seem to spool just a tad bit faster and no running water lines on the install. For my application, spool is everything, but from what I've read the A28's may have better top end, which is hard to pass up. This is why the lack of real world numbers is causing me to hold tight. Someone has to come up with something sooner or later. But I'm leaning towards A28's.
