check engine light/ exhaust problem question
#17
hi, sorry about the long delay in my responses... its not an official porsche dealer, its actually a lotus dealership. I decided to do nothing for now, im trying to find a local shop that can look into flashing the ECU for me.... i really only want to do it if its definitely going to fix my CEL problem. Im in the NY, long island area if anyone knows a good place.

Mike,
High flow cats go bad all the time.. They need to be changed.. You can flash the car and remove the secondary O2's but you can not pass a New York state inspection. PM me if you would like more info on that..

Im experiencing this exact problem now. I have an aftermarket exhaust. all 4 o2's were replaced less than 5,000miles ago.
Im getting a P0430 + P0420 cel.
Im gonna try solving the problem with the extesions. Anyone know where I can find a good DIY write on how to install the O2 extentions?

Fixed.
Not all cats are equal. Cheap cats on cheap aftermarket exhausts will not last as long as high quality cats.

Not a chance.. It's been a while since I messed with it but I believe there is 8 items that need to be ready for OBDII and with both rear O2's out you will get 6 out of 8 and you will fail.

I thought the O2s readiness was sensed as a pair. So disabling via flash gives you only one, and you will pass. HOWEVER, it can be a PITA to get the car to set all the OTHER readiness codes.

If all the non continuous readiness monitors have not completed successfully (or passed) the vehicle will never pass OBDII emissions testing even if there are no fault codes stored. Some emissions testing programs will allow only ONE non completed monitor for a passing emissions test.

The first statement seems to indicate ALL 'non continuous readiness codes' must be set.
Then you say that some states allow One non completed to pass.
Not sure what this means
Thx

Ard if the system is functioning correctly all the continuous and non continuous readiness monitors will all eventually complete and/or pass. There are instances where emissions testing programs will allow a vehicle to pass even with one monitor not yet completed. I don't know exactly in what states.
My initial question was for Markski regarding the elimination of downstream oxygen sensors via flash and effects on readiness status.
I hope this answers your question

big H,
My rear O2's are flashed out and car will not pass NY state inspection. I have to put on cats flash back the O2's and then give it some miles for it to be ready. then get my inspection.
