What are your thoughts on nitrous?
Every time I read about, hear about, or see an impressive dyno graph, 60-130 plot, or time slip from a car running nitrous, I'm never really impressed.
It's weird, but the second I find out it's running nitrous, the impressiveness of the accomplishment is immediately and permanently diminished to me.
I don't know what it is exactly. I guess maybe because it's only temporary, or maybe I feel it's the "cheap" route to getting HP? I know it's probably illogical, but I can't seem to shake my opinion of the stuff.
I did run it a couple times in my Supra (the previous owner had it installed), but I always felt like I was "cheating" when I used it. Am I the only one that feels this way?

It is cheap HP unless it goes boom. As you know I like insurance so running my car at 1.2 bar with VP 109 gives me a lot of assurance that I will have an engine in tact after a heavy right foot episode.

I disagree with all of the above and here is why.
First, when your building a car many people who want alot of HP. Usually, people with turbos end up getting turbos that are very large to make this possible. Sure, lets say you make 800+ WHP with your large turbo setup but the reality is that this car is almost 100% going to have a electronic boost controller with 2 boost settings. Normal and High boost with the High boost rarely ever being used. However, in doing so the way the car is driven 99% of the time when the car is not on high boost settings a car with smaller turbos can be just as fast as a large turbo car on low boost. However, this smaller turbo car is far more livable day to day and around town. So why not just spray the smaller turbo car? Sure its temporary but 99% of the time large turbo guys don't use it all anyways and if you spray that smaller turbo car you will usually be able to hang with a larger turbo car without the around town disadvantages.
Also, there are cars out there that are not 911 turbo's were HP is easy to make or the car is NA. I for example have spray on my daily beater 924S and it goes from being a high 15second car to a 12 second car because I over double my WHP and almost triple my TQ on spray easily. It cost a total of about $800 (CDI + Any wet fogger kit) and takes just a few short hours to install. Since the car really isn't that important to me (daily beater) I am never going to put any real money into making it fast or the time to make it fast. However, I can still hold about even with a Cayman in a car that came stock with about 120whp! and that to me is just funny for my $800 investment.

Years back I saw a picture in a forum with a car (a Maxima I think) sporting the wounds of a giant explosion from the trunk. One of the seals leaked, or something, and she went boom. Granted, this almost never happens, but it CAN. You get what you pay for, so Nitrous can be a great way to get power on the cheap. But, this power can be very volatile. Gas burns, but this stuff explodes. I don't want to risk a massive, unintended, explosion in either the cylinders or trunk. If someone else wants to run it, all the power to them.

n2o is a great tool but it can be unpredictable. just depends on how bad u wanna win
if i had the $ or a spare motor in case it went bad id do it for sure.
but then again im crazy about horsepower

I too look at Nitro as a cheat, I like to have an honest tap of power at hand whenever I want BUT and its a big BUT. Some people can take or leave power and never think twice about it, they like their cars to have the creature comforts. Some of us are obsessive about power, and each power level we achieve give us a buzz for a year or so and it wears off, so we upgrade again. There are already a few on 6Speed who are members of the 1000bhp club and its been done the right way. There are some of us who will never experience 1000 BHP due to financial constraints. So its fair to say once you have reached the outer limits of your modding envelope, if you crave for an extra power fix, Nitro might just be the next avenue to explore. there is a Guy over here, a little controversial so his name will remain secret. He has a 928 with 2000bhp I believe. All nitro "Wizard Of Noz" powered. He says he has been timed at 208 MPH making him the fastest 928 in the uK. Enough about that anyway.
My point is to some it might just be the only way to experience the power that only a small minority of people can afford to do properly.
IMHO

The Maxima explosion was caused by a defective pressure relief disc in the bottle and the owner left the bottle heater on. The bottle failed. Nitrous is an oxidizer not an explosive.
Used properly nitrous can be lots of fun for small $.
We ran nitrous on our streetbikes at Bonneville for 4 years without any issues. Stock rods and pistons squeezing 60hp for 5 miles straight!
Words of warning : never go lean or you will burn something up, also never activate at too low a rpm.

I was actually considering this for a while when I had my 335i. A buddy of mine had a really tricked system in a CLS55 AMG and he sprayed a lot with no issues. With all the fail safes that Meth kits have why cant someone make a set-up that is reliable and has fail safes if something starts to go lean?
As for my feelings for this stuff... I think its fair game as long as it makes you faster and your willing to live with the risks.

I have to admit an interest in it. Its only an interest at the moment. But I am still going ahead with my VW Split screen camper with a 964 engine & box, a TPC supercharger, air/water IC and a Motec M600 ecu, water/meth injection. If it works out that I can't run all those mods Nitro is another avenue for me. I want to see 400 BHP. I am making a trip early November to see a company called GCS engineering. They have a 964 camper making 268 hp plus another 100 nitro. So I am not completely against the idea ( if all else fails).
