EVOMS Stage I Kit Upgrade

Actually, it looks like it's inferior due to a lack of exhaust. Still more expensive, though.

well you are comparing different hardware options. The Maf is a building block for higher hp and probably the reason why they offer it.That coupled with the fact that many people now like to choose their own turbos which Todd can tune in person. They do also offer a stage 1 without the maf.To each his own I guess.

You can get the EVOMS Stage 1 without the Hitachi MAF conversion and just the regular V-flow intake for less. The Hitachi MAF conversion is just an option you can add. Most of the cost is that the EVOMSit runs a little more than other tunes at $1750.

Fully understood, and I know that you REALLY know your stuff, Joe. The MAF just seems like money mis-spent at such an early stage if you aren't planning on stepping up to real power in the future.

The one thing we will all agree on is that there are a multitude of different directions someone can go when upgrading their TT. We have spent over a decade developing our power systems and as of right now we are pretty happy with our resuls.
Historically we have seen the factory Bosch MAF as a point of weakness, therefore we incoorperate the Hitachi instead. This is not some crafty little scheme to lock people into using EVOMSit for the remainder of their twin turbo Porsche life, its simply a way for us to build the strongest foundation possible in which to make the most power possible. I know there are other tuners out there that dont see it the same way but it's how we see it so that is why we offer it as an option in our V-flow's.

Now get back to using useless mods to hook people into Evoms for life!

I understand your view because you are fairly new to the 996 turbo and its problems with maf sensors blowing. Many owners complained of this problem at all hp levels.some would have problems and others like myself made it to 700hp without any maf problems.I can assure you that while changing to the Hitachi may not raise the hp at the stage 1 level it is vital from a "future mod" point of view. For those that want only stage 1 power and nothing more(those are few and far between I would guess) Evoms offers stage 1 without the Hitachi.

When I had my 01TT I went throught 2 Stock MAF's and I had only a flash and exhaust.
I dont think that upgrading to a Hitachi MAF at his stage is a bad idea, especially if he is going to be adding an exhaust.
In my old car the stock MAF was the weakest link IMO.
Hitachi MAF is definitely helping him in the right direction without any hold ups (ie stock MAF going bad)

There is an interesting phenomenon in the porsche world vs. mercedes world. In the world of porsche, when someone's car is idling rough, the immediate reaction is "Replace the MAF"
In the Mercedes world, it is "Clean the MAF"
I literally did this last night on my CLK500. The MAF looks IDENTICAL to the Porsche MAF. In fact, the porsche part is actually stamped with a mercedes symbol. So, with that knowledge in mind, when my Porsche MAF went bad pre-tune, I spent 120 seconds experimenting and took the MAF out, sprayed electrical cleaner on it, and surprise surprise it was not bad anymore. 8 months later, it's still running perfectly.

Stock MAF = CRAP
The "intakes" help with throttle response and sound great. HP gains from an intake or airbox upgrade are there and increase as the turbo size and boost demand increases. The same can be said for the MAF. Much better throttle resopnce and tunability. That said, many of us have seen MAFs go bad on even a stock car with just a K&N filter. Most tuners would prefer a MAF upgrade (or a push through system) and most P-car owners have purchased a MAF or two+++. That is how I would start knowing what I know now. Nip it ion the bud for future add-ons AND reliability/durability.
Enjoy safely...and yes a good exhaust will get you 20hp and 20tq! Very cracky!
