Carbon Fiber package, dash trim repair?
#16
I repaired mine and they came out perfect. I first removed both sides and peeled the OEM clear coat completely off by running them over the edge of a granite counter top where I pulled the carbon layer down and let the clear coat go straight out and break off. I got all the clear coat off in about 5 minutes or less per piece. That left me with the untreated carbon strips. They lay flat and I secured them down with double sided tape on a piece of plywood and sprayed them with clear coat out of a can. About 15 coats to build up the thickness. I then stuck them back in place with double sided tape just to see how they would react and they have been there for a year now in all temperatures and have remained perfectly flat....This went way better and was a lot easier than I had expected. They look like they came with the car!

Here are a few pics:
Setting up to spray
Spraying:
Close up after a few coats:
Then I used a 3M high temp automotive clear double sided tape to secure them...no movement or lifting and we had a hot sunny summer - I was actually very surprised they held up - I was ready to JB weld them down and figured I would try the tape to see how they did, as it was a lot easier....

what would happen if you threw them in the oven with the clear coat on it? would it melt and turn yellow? Also, how hard is it to get that strip out? My carbon is still holding up well aside from one side.

Carbon Dash repair -996
I saw the link to dragon plate for the veneer to fix the trim. Any idea on what size sheet will be required and also what style weave best matches the factory CF (they offer plain and twill) Thanks in advance for the help.

Dash panel
Yes, just heated up the trim and the leather just pulls off (it took a few hours to figure that one out). The CF pieces you see for sale on this site are done the same way. The pieces aren't totally CF, they have removed the leather from the stock pieces and re-covered using CF and resin. If you just wanted to replace the leather - that would be even easier. The leather covering is paper-thin.

I bought the carbon fiber from here: http://compositeenvisions.com/ and the resin I get locally because it is hard to ship. Get the high UV protection stuff. I also paint all pieces with automotive clear-coat now to keep the UV protection really high.

I'm pretty sure this is the stuff - http://compositeenvisions.com/carbon...5-7oz-578.html
They have 10 times more products every time I go there - hard to find what you are looking for. The price has even dropped since my last purchase.

can you describe this more? You’re basically breaking off the clear coat?
