Questions for British Columbia owners out there

I'm looking to bring a 996 Turbo into BC and have a few questions.

1) Any issues people encountered with the BC inspection? I had a fairly clean PPI done in Alberta but don't want any surprises.

2) What can I expect to pay for insurance with ICBC?

3) My previous insurance company in Alberta required notification of any performance modifications. What is ICBC like when it comes to this issue? Are they **** with things like turbo upgrades and flashes? The car is stock but I want to make some changes once I get it into BC.

Out of province inspection is fairly straight forward as long as the tires and brakes are good.

I pay $1,700 a year with full discount for a GT2. Primary ins is ICBC and optional is Canadian direct Ins

ICBC doesn't care about mods but you should check and see if they still offer additional coverage for mods. otherwise they won't pay out more than a stocker.

I brought my car in from Saskatchewan. Safety inspection is a no-brainer - sub out the clear corners before the inspection to save some trouble. As mentioned above ICBC doesn't care about any mods. If you want them covered, you will have to name them and prove the value - you will then have to pay more for insurance if you want them covered. I have the full discount as well - just under 2K for insurance.

Thanks for all the great feedback!!

Racin Jason - Not quite sure what you mean by "sub out the clear corners before the inspection"

If your new car has clear corners installed (white turn signal markers front left & right), the dealer would want to charge you $ 165 to buy new marker lights because the safety inspection requires orange markers. If you have the old lights, put them back before the safety inspection.

I never appreciated the clear versus orange markers. The car I'm looking at has orange ones so I should be ok. Which are the original ones? Orange or clear?

Awesome. I see you're in Vancouver Island, as am I. Make sure you take the road out to Youbou sometime (hwy junction is in Duncan). Hardly any fuzz and you can finally open 'er up a little out there.

1) Any issues people encountered with the BC inspection? I had a fairly clean PPI done in Alberta but don't want any surprises.

Nope it's all pretty straightforward. Since you're bringing it to the Island you won't have to deal with Vancouver's "AirCare" BS, which could present a problem if you're using freeflow exhaust and/or a richer fuel mixture.

2) What can I expect to pay for insurance with ICBC?

I moved to BC a few years ago, so I'm not yet at full discount with ICBC, but I pay roughly $2000/year

3) My previous insurance company in Alberta required notification of any performance modifications. What is ICBC like when it comes to this issue? Are they **** with things like turbo upgrades and flashes? The car is stock but I want to make some changes once I get it into BC.

Ditto what the above poster said, ICBC just goes by stock settings. Haven't looked into it but I'm sure it's a bit of a process to register your car's modifications in terms of comprehensive coverage.

Stock is orange. You're fine.
