They make the wintersport in 285? I thought 275 was the widest. Yeah that'll work on stock rims no problem.

at 1010 they list them as an available size...and then do the 235s instead of the 225s in front right?

No, by my calculations, none of those will work.

After starting this thread, I have spent countless hours educating myself and trying to find a solution.

Use this calculator to figure out the overall diameter of the tires. They should me a MAXIMUM of 0.2" apart, 0.1" is better.
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

The only thing I can find is to use Pirelli Winter 240's in 235/45 18 and 295/35 18. They work out to be 26.2" and 26.1" respectively. You could also use Pirelli Winter 240 Serie II in 225/45 18 and 295/35 18, but Tire Rack is out of stock on them right now.

I ordered mine 2 days ago, and according to UPS they should arrive on the 28th. I will post pictures as soon as I get them on the car.

u sure about ur math? i used the calculator at 1010tires:

285/35 = 25.85
235/40 = 25.40
=1.77% difference

225/40 = 25.08
225/45 = 25.97
235/40 = 25.40
235/45 = 26.32

275/35 = 25.57
285/35 = 25.85
295/35 = 26.12
295/30= 24.96

so i cld keep my nokians in the back and go with the pirellis or blizzak also makes a 235/45 in the front i guess.

---------------------------------------------------
The rear tire and wheel specs are:

265/35R-18 BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK LM-60 XL performance snow tires

Mounted on:

18X10 Silver Painted Sport Edition Cup wheels.

Here's the thread for pics of what they look like mounted:

I have since sold them, but it's by far the best winter set up for these cars.

Yeah, but if you look back to post #25 from Damon at Tire Rack, you will see that the 265 tire isn't wide enough to fit on the wide Turbo rear wheel. The picture is worth a 1000 words. Maximum rim width for the 265 is 10.5".

My fronts are going to be 0.1" taller. If I had a choice I would have gone with the Serie II in 225/35 18's on the front to make the fronts 0.1" smaller, but they seem to be out of stock everywhere. Once I get them mounted I will take pictures of them back to back so we can see how much of a difference there really is.

I know the 265 won't fit right on the 11". you're right, that pic above is a great visual of that being an issue. That was my issue as well, otherwise I would have just put the tires on the stock wheels as well. In my post above it says that the 265's that I had were mounted on 10" rims. that seems to be the best combo for traction on snow and ice. If you start to go too much wider, traction can begin to diminish in really snowy conditions.

Just my $.02

3Ds were a good choice. Been running mine for two full winters and they're great.
