Installed UMW Stage2A Kit..

It all started with an ECU tune. I was going to keep it simple. I didn’t want to go down that same slippery slope all my cars are victim of. But things don’t always go to plan. When Kevin from UMW sold me his ECU tune.. he said, “enjoy the appetizer!”

Knowing that every call, email and text are responded to immediately at ALL hours of the day and night is a service that is hard to explain and impossible to duplicate.

I ended up with his Stage 2a package. In short, it’s a K16/997GT2 Hybrid Zero Clearance turbo. Through the help of my great friend Eric, we lifted the car up on jack stands and did the install in my garage within a day. FYI.. once you get that rear bumper off, this car is relatively easy to work on. This is coming from a guy that didn’t know a wrench from a ratchet.. Ask Kevin.. he swung by and I could tell he was nervous I was doing the install. Priceless moment!

So after the repulsive and agonizing break in period of 250 miles.. the car just rips! I’m talking about 1st gear is useless, 2nd gear smokes up the tires/oh **** watch out your gonna hit the rev limiter, 3rd gear pull is unreal, 4th gear your trying to remember if the volume is up on the radar detector and why do these brakes suck *** all of a sudden. It is an experience I have never had in another car before. Unbelievable power.. torque at all revs.. It rips from 2K and upwards. There is no comparison from an ECU tune to a Turbo upgrade.

I took my brother in law out for a spin.. hearing him squeal in the passenger seat is a precious moment I will never forget. It’s the true indicator of your car being bad ***. This package is awesome. The ride is as smooth as stock., idle is perfect. I’m also equipped with a Europipe Loud exhaust…. The sound is nasty!!! Intoxicating..

I drive my car in the rain.. hell I’d drive it in the snow if my tires allowed. Its got 67,000 miles and counting.. and it drives better now than it did before. Awesome stuff to anyone that is on the fence.

I will post some 60-130 stats soon..

Did you also install his intake system?

I talked to Kevin the other day about these same turbos. I have his 1 bar tune now. Good to hear it's a great upgrade. I'm waiting on some quotes from him so I can move ahead.

The stage 2a is definitely the best value you can get. It is fast. I am at the next level and I cannot tell the seat of the pants difference, even though I know I am faster now.

Would this be equivalent to the 16G or Billet 16 turbos?

I have this kit as well. It is K16 on the exhaust side and 997 GT2 compressor wheel. Also zero clearance. I've been very happy with mine.

on the hot side they might be similar. I think the wheel on the 2a turbos is actually a larger wheel than a K16 but it is fitted in the K16 housing. On the cold side, the 2a turbo is much larger as it uses the 997 GT2 compressor wheel stuffed in a K26 housing. So it should flow much more air than a 16g.

These turbos will benefit greatly from larger injectors and larger intake plenum

Not sure if you are asking me, but I use the UMW lwfw and high hp clutch, which can take more than 700whp. But it is very on off switch type, not a smooth grab like the stocker, but definitely not as grabby as a metal to metal clutch like the tilton.

Its not stock, the original owner upgraded it to a 'heavy duty' as he called it. Have no clue.. but its holding up fine thus far.

Not sure on the numbers.. need to find a good place to dyno. Last place I went to w/ my old 996TT was absolutely terrible.. completely clueless. I will be doing a 60-130 soon.

Turbo Chargers
Zero Clearance & Ceramic coating is Always Optional
Stage 1 (commonly known as GT1’s or K16/K24)
Stage 2 K16/K26
Stage 3 K24/997tt Hybrid
Stage 4 Billet Race
Stage 5 K16/Hybrid
Stage 6 K24/26

This is from Kevin's site, so it seems that Stage2 is the k16/k26 and the Stage 3 is the k24/997tt hybrid...

NOPE!!! His site is about as old as my Nintendo 64! Don't use that for a referance.. My turbos are what I said they were.. K16/997GT2 Zero Clearance Hybrids.. Those are all dated..

Someone please tell that guy to update his site, it is confusing!

yup, that site is old and those stage numbers are no longer valid. The highest stage is IV and there are none of those as far as I know.
