water in spare tire well after car wash

After I run my car through the touchless car wash which includes an undercarriage high pressure blast, I find water in the spare tire well. Has anyone ever experienced this? If so, where was the water getting in?

I've observed that the carpet is only wet at the bottom which leaves me to believe that the water is getting in from the bottom. I really don't think it's the weather stripping lining the top of our trunks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Better yet, can we just list possible entrances for the water into the spare tire well.

1) weather stripping around top of trunk

I drive it through the winter and the undercarriage blast is great for washing the salt off. I'll definately stick to hand washes in the summer.

I'll get the car on a hoist and look for any drains with bad seals. Any other suggestions?

Remove the spare wheel, tools, then the carpets. You need to do this anyway to dry it up and prevent mold.

Then you can see the steel "tub", and check all (think there is normally 2) rubber plugs at the bottom, and if there's any hole or damage where the water can come in.

Happy New Year and GL!

I'll strip her down and do a thorough search. I'll report back in a few days.

maybe you just need to have the bonnet adjusted.. maybe have it adjusted a little tighter so its more snug all around the rubber, does it line up well with the fenders and front bumper?
