Looks like D916 Front and D917 rear for the 996 Turbo.

Now what does "D917 requires edge drilled sensor" mean?

Looks Like the part numbers are:

For 996 Turbo 2001-2005 standard iron rotors

Front: CC-7797-D916
Rear: CC-7798-D917

From Pelican parts:

Fronts: $187.50
Rears: $167.50

If your Turbo has the standard brakes, they are the iron discs and not ceramic and these part numbers are correct for your car. If you have the carbon ceramic dics on your car you will need part CC-7892-D991 @ $227.50 for the fronts. I don't see any option for replacement of the rear if your have carbon discs.

I'm sure all of these parts can be found a little cheaper if you look around enough.

Robin@EPL is infamous around these parts
Girodisc 350mm slotted rotors, Pagid RS19s, Ti shims and Castrol SRF. This combo is unbeatable on track... and totally drivable on the street if you don't mind pad noise.

My opinion would be to run the Pagid RS29 which is great for street and weekend DE. If you want a GOOD proven rotor that will not crack or you will not have to replace the hat because of immitation McLaren hardware, get the Brembo kit. The reason this rotor is superior is because of the hardware which gives the rotor a true centerline of braking. You will not have uneven pad wear and you will not have to replace the HAT either. see here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/b...5-p-61037.html

Another option is to step up to the 350mm disks like on a 997TT. If you dont want to spend the bucks on the upgraded 6piston kit seen here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/i...8&class_9=2335, you can do our new PLUS1 kit with either the OEM drilled rotors or the Brembo 2pc rotors. We have a great package and details are listed here - http://www.vividracing.com/blog/anno...porsche-996tt/

The reds have always been noisy for the first 100-200 miles. They have to be bed in properly and the rotors MUST be turned on the vehicle with a ProCut lathe even if the rotors are brand new. The fast street pads are very hard and if the rotors are not dead flat when INSTALLED on the axle, you will get poor results.

But for my money, the EBC blue (NDX) is the proper pad for any track or fast street use. I installed a set on my G35 and they are fantastic. A big jump in performance over the reds and virtually no dust.

I know Akebono makes an awesome ceramic Euro pad that barely gives off any dust. I had them on my E55 and my buddy has them on his E92 M3. For whatever reason Akebono do not list a Front application for the 996tt...

Well low brake dust pads = lower braking performance (typicaly) . Given the 911 is a performance car, I'm going to guess that's why they don't produce any. Your only option for no/low brake dust is PCCB's

Nah.. I'm really considering the Cool Carbon pads you mentioned earlier. They seem to be pretty on par with what I'm looking for. I really don't do any racing or DE events, just mountain roads and twisties.
I may updrade to the 997 350mm rotors though.

performance is relative. when i changed the pads on my E55 from stock to Akebono Ceramics.... significantly better bite in with the Akebonos. sure when you compare the Ceramic low dust pad to something like a Pagid or a Porterfield its going to be a worse performer, but when compared to stock it may be the same or better. i do not track my car much and i hate that brake dust ruins expensive wheels

Relative is the key word. I have experience with E55's Kompressors. I have driven on stock/ebc/akebonos/textar/pagids rs 19s. Anyways, picture where i like to take the e55 once in awhile

Great pick of the E55 hanging it out. Still think those are awesome looking cars.

In the same boat and needing new pads before my next track day. Cool carbons sound like a good one tontry- has anyone put these on the original 4-pots? Performane/noise?

Hi Guys! I got my Cool Carbon Pads few weeks ago, but as I've only done a few thousand miles on my car which had fresh discs and pads when i bought it, I was gonna wait till the pads were half way worn at least so I get my money's worth. Anyhow, after a spirited drive I just couldnt deal with the 'wood' feeling brakes anymore. So I go home last night and put the coolcarbon boys on.
First impressions: definitely a better bite than stock but still not sharp enough for my liking. I like my pads so sharp it feels like the car will do an Endo! Anyhow, I've only done 15miles on them! So obviously I'm gonna give them time to bed in before I come to a final conclusion! Keep you updated!

Great update, keep the info coming. Sounds like you're really in the initial stages though. So you think they have better initial bite them the OEMs? Did you do any work to prep them before putting them on like beveling the edge? Just curious as I've seem some other guys talking about doing that with some other pads. What about noise?

Keep the updates coming.
