Camshaft Position Sensor...
My car is throwing a P0348 (camshaft position sensor A circuit high input [bank 2])... Anyone know how hard these (there are two of them) to get to? Can I do it myself with the rear end jacked up?
Thanks much...

the sensor is held in with on bolt. bank 2 has more room to work then bank 1 (the intake piping) not sure if you can get it from the top but will check for you in the AM. If you need to get it from below its right above the # 4 cylinder's spark plug.

Hey Tim, thanks for the reply! (+rep!)... The car actually will not run. I've been doing lots and lots of research on here thus far before I typed out my story... So here it is:
Last week, was accelerating from a stop light (50-70% throttle) and made it up to about 65-70mph when the car just fell on its face. I actually felt the complete loss of power as I lifted (around 4-5k rpm) the gas to shift into 5th. My CEL started flashing (which I had never seen before - come to find out, that is indicating misfires?) and then I got ABS+PSM. I pushed in the clutch and the car shut off. I coasted into a turn-lane, where after trying to start for a min or so, called a buddy who owns a tow company.
A cop showed up about 1 minute later and put out flares for me so I took a peek under the hood to see if I saw anything obvious (having owned a few UN-naturally aspirated cars in the past, I have felt similar sensations when an intake pipe blows or something like that) as well as on the ground to see if there were any puddles. Nothing seemed out of whack. While I waited for my ride to come, I actually started the car about 15 min later. It reved to 2k rpm on start-up, then dropped to 600-800 (really rough) before it died - all in about 3-4 seconds. I could then turn the key to start and the engine would crank just fine, over and over, it just wouldn't start. And I paid very close attention - nothing sounds mechanically screwed up; that is to say, I don't think I've got a catastrophic issue here. It really seems like a spark, fuel, or vacuum issue to me. I jacked the ***-end up when I got the car home and into my garage. Everything that I can see from the underside looks fine. I couldn't find any lose turbo/intake piping, no hanging vacuum lines, and again, the engine is completely dry on the bottom (no oil, coolant, or schmegma...)
I used my Audi's VAG-Comm to pull the codes (confirmed them later with a generic scanner from Autozone - still haven't pulled the trigger on a Durametric yet) and they were as follows:
P0300 Random - multiple misfire detected
P0306 cyl 6 misfire
P0304 cyl 4 misfire
P0305 cyl 5 misfire
P0348 camshaft position sensor A circuit high input (bank 2)
P0155 O2 sensor heater circuit bank 2 sensor 1
P0135 oxygen sensor heater bank 1 sensor 1
I cleared all the codes last night and had a buddy start the car while I stood behind the car, ear to the motor. Again, it sounded fine, idled for about 6-7 seconds (rougher towards the end, also smelled really rich) and then died. It would not start again, although it would turn over just fine.
I'm at a loss here... I'm thinking it might be bad plugs/coil packs? And if the car is misfiring all over the place, the cam position sensor is getting false readings? Not entirely sure as this is my first P-car, and I've only had it for about 1.5 months. I already have new plugs and (997) coil packs. I'm just wondering if I should do those first and then see if that fixes it, or should I bite the $300 bullet and replace both CPS while I'm in there?
Also, I'm wondering if this is something I should tackle on my own (with the help of a buddy) with the rear simply jacked up? I've got all the right tools, including air/impact in my garage - just no lift.
Anywho, this is where I am right now... Thanks for your input and anything else anyone might want to add.

Did you try to rev the car passed 3500-4000? because at that point the cam retards on the varo. If the oil rings on the end of your intake cam is not holding the oil psi the cam will not advance and cause the problems you have. The cam sync controls injector and the dme uses that input for timing as well. The time this happened to me I did not get a high input code so hopefully its just the sensor. I will see if I have a spare one in a old blown up motor (lol) and take a pic or two of where the sensor is in the car.

I've not tried reving the motor since it started acting up - not even sure that I could if I wanted to. My reservation there would be that I'm starting it cold and then trying to rev withing the first 2-3 seconds of idle... since I only have about 5-6 (seconds) before it dies again.
I guess I know it's not a fuel delivery problem at this point - since it does start after a 20 min break or so.
Pics would be great! I really appreciate all your input here in my thread!

Well it looks like you will need to get it from under the car. I have one used cam sensor that in the bank 1 valve cover. If you do some homework and its the same I can drop it in the mail for you.

Hmm... I can't see a damn thing in that pic! haha! Maybe I'm just not sure what I'm looking for.
Let me tear into things (perhaps tonight) and I'll let you know. And thanks very much for offering up the CPS!

Cool deal Tim... Very much appreciate it!
One last thing, Bank 2 would be the passenger side of the motor, yes? As far as I can tell from various parts suppliers, the bosch part number is good for either side - so your part might could work okay? How old is that one?
Again, many thanks...

Had this happen to me on the nordschleife but it wouldn't start again,it was bank 2 and sounded ok when turning over but nothing. Threw similar codes, tried everything, got a cam sensor from manthey checked wiring coil packs etcand nothing worked, did a compression test on bank 2 and had none at all, turned out the timing chain had snapped, hope your not so unlucky, but i'd do a compression test if i was you, hope this helps
