Your thoughts about aftermarket stereo...

My CDR220 in my '02 is acting up...it's got a sound pop which is intermittant and annoying...I talked to Bekkers and they want the reciever shipped to them, I also took it to a local reputable audio shop and they want to replace the head unit and the amp in the trunk leaving the orignal speakers...
I don't need a complex setup, just a cd/radio reciever with Ipod link...
should I get the factory one checked out or go with the aftermarket??

Junk the whole system and start over. The factory stereo systems have always been marginal at best (I still have one and would love to get rid of it but a new house is a money vacumn). The Pioneer seems to be the board favorite for a double din unit. (I would not even consider a single din unit.) The RMS output however is insufficient to accurately drive a good speaker system. So budget a good amp to go along will a good set of speakers. You might even consider picking up (or having built) a Bose type speaker enclosure for the back deck for a decent set of subs.

Pioneer. Can't remember which model. I like the rotary ****. I think rotary is a must for the volume.
