wow great info on restrictiveness of different setups...might you have some number for some of the other systems out there, there are so so many exhaust systems to choose from on these cars, making the right choice can be hard sometimes! thank you for your time and consideration

Are you talking about Ruf headers?

I'll trade a little backpressure for no drone all day.

Has anyone pick'ed up some rattles since changing exhaust and flywheel? i get an occasional 1500 to 2500 rpm rattle that noone can isolate. its intermittent. at just the right frequency and duration. sounds like a loose heat shield. ruf550. i had it even with other exhausts i used in past.

How is the cargraphics for drone? thinking of having a used set sent from the states unless anyone knows of a used set in Europe, CH. Is there a forum for used parts for 996tt in Europe? I need to increase my posts before I can post WTB.
Thanks

I had an exhaust heat shield rattle on my old bmw z3 I had years ago as well on a lexus rx300. Annoying, but if its the case its a easy fix.
But if you had it with other exhausts in the same car you got something else on your hands. I know when I had a 3 inch exhaust (loud as hell, hated it) I would get lots of vibration at certain rpm from the bass like vibration you get from subwoofers which was causing rattles in my door panels.

Gearhead,
You should look at the Designtek system as I believe it is produced parallel to the Milltek system (just labeled differently) at a fraction of the cost (approx. USD 2300)
http://designtek.eu/design-tek/products/designtek-porsche-turbo-sports-ss-exhaust/
The Milltek system is just perfect with no drone and a perfect exhaust note in my ears.
Cheers,
JE

The stock exhaust uses 300 cell cats. The 100 cell "sport" cats are less restrictive so the backpressure with these is lower and lower backpressure is what you want.
Reducing backpressure benefits turbine efficiency which results in better boost response and more boost.
If you go from 300 cell to 100 cell then you need to increase the volume of the cat so that the total contact area remains the same. That is the only way to avoid a CEL problem.
Also a big diameter / short 100 cell cat is less restrictive than a small diameter / long 100 cell cat even when their total contact area / volume is identical.
The 200 cell cats are less restrictive than the stock 300 cell cats but more restrictive than the 100 cell cats.
