996tt gearbox oil change
#16
^^ John good stuff man ^^ I have an RS box with revised ratios and modified gears (Porsche Motorsport) ...and the GT2 has an LSD as well. I dunno what to do I think I will have to ask Matt M. when the time comes... man fluid changes in the Porsche spook me a bit lol!

This stuff ?
http://www.amazon.com/Red-Line-58404-Lightweight-Shockproof/dp/B000CPI5YG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1345237394&sr=8-2&keywords=red+line+shockproof
Easy as eatin pie! The bottom plug is the drain, I would get the trans up to operating temp then have the front of the car a little bit higher then the rear to get all the oil out. I use Red Line lightweight shockproof synthetic. You need about 4 quarts. You will need a Oil spray gun, looks like a grease gun with out the pump handle and has a clear hose to suck the oil up and push it in the trans with.

I am going to share our findings on actual real world gear oil testing. Now mind you this testing is not in a porsche gearbox, it is in offshore race boat outdrives which get the crap beat out of them....
We tested Mobil 1, Mercruiser, motul, Neo, Red Line Shockproof and Amsoil severe gear.
Test vehicle was 40 foot skater with outdrives that cost $60k each powered by 1,800 HP each motors. These drives are rated for 1,200 HP and are the highest available less Arneson surface drives.
Findings; Amsoil was by far the best. Gear/ bearing life and condition were the best. Also Amsoil ran the coolest temperature wise of all gear oils tested. The drive oil can approach 300 degrees by the end of a long/rough race.
1 other interesting finding, by adding zinc to all the mentioned oils they all showed significant improvement in their ability to protect these expensive drives.

If anybody needs Redline fluids I am a dealer and can drop ship anywhere in CONUS.

Super Bump !!
The Amsoil testament intrigues me.
My main concern would be in Porsche's slip differential like the GT2's (and I assume all TT's ?).
Reading through the description it looks compatible and even has a modifier if LSD chatter occurs.
...."AMSOIL Severe Gear is compatible with most limited-slip differentials. If limited-slip differential chatter occurs, add AMSOIL Slip Lock® friction modifier additive."....
Anyone have real world experience with the Amsoil product. ?

The normal Turbo doesn't have an LSD. I run the AMSoil severe gear in my trans and it's fantastic. Shifting is better than it was with the OEM fill and no noises or whine.
