30,000 mile service question
I recently purchased a 2001 996TT and it needs the 30K service. I researched the 996TT extensively before my purchase and it is turning out to be a great trade-up from my 996 coupe.
I read either here or on Rennlist that the spark plugs needs to be changed but the dealer tells me otherwise.
Does anyone know what exactly is the 30K service and what it involves. Also, what is a reasonable cost in Los Angeles. Thanks. Paul

the 30k service does include plugs. I believe the 'book' alots 8.2 hours of service for the 30k. They do a bunch of stuff. Just ask the dealer, and they'll tell you exactly what it involves. If your car is near 30k miles I would think you need new plugs....as long as the previous owner hadn't changed them. Im definitely going to shop around.....my local dealer here in DC/VA wants $1920 for the service!
NO f'n way Im paying anything close to that.

On the '01 turbos they supposed to change the spark plugs. The '02s and above are exempt from the plug change for the 30k (although I would recommened it). This is because the '01s come with the "5" heat plugs. The '02s and above come with the "6" heat plugs. I have a copy of the years and what should be done for the 30k on a sheet in front of me.
Also, the two Porsche dealers here in GA charge ~$1300 for the 30k service. I did my own plugs (with the help of Dock) and saved myself about $700. Because I did my own plugs, my 30k service was ~$650 after tax. Not bad.

In all seriousness, I do deserve that. I am typically very careful when it comes to working on my car. The combination of physical exhaustion and cold weather finally got to me.
