I find it interesting that many people by a Porsche because of its race breeding. But many Ferrari owners could care less about racing they just buy it more for its image. Makes you wonder if Ferrari really gets its moneys worth from F1. Rather ironic.

The technological divorce between F1 and *sports car racing*
is so big that it is almost the same as if Porsche got into
competitive satellite-launching. I also agree that F1 is boring,
compared to WRC or other sports car racing. There is so much
dependent on aerodynamics in F1 that it makes passing very
difficult. A following car has so much 'dirty air' from the car in
front that it has significantly less downforce and ability to
brake or corner. F1 would be 3 time as exciting to watch if
all wings were banned, IMHO.

Hardly. At least 5-6 years ago there was so much more to Formula One. Now its like the only strategies involved are how much fuel you start the race with and how many pit stops you make. WOW.

5-6 years ago remember when the pit crew would falsely come out and prepare for a pit stop to throw the other teams off. That was FUN! Remember when they used to change tires and allow the drivers to, well, RACE. Now, what, you're telling me racing is pacing your car so the tires don't get eaten too quickly? I am not directing this at you red994, just speaking in general. But today, F1 is hardly racing. It's like a camel race across the desert. Run your camel to hard and it’s humps will run dry only no water to fill them back up.

With ROW's major racing spectacle a robot piloted single- file line dance and US's major racing spectacle a contrived spec car yellow flag-created last lap mad dash for the checkered flag, it's the reason today's teens get their preferred media " racing fix " from games like Playstation2 GT4 .

In that case, why hasn't Porsche tried WRC? Subaru looked at both F1 and WRC, and decided WRC would more closely fit their desired goals as a company. Porsche already has the awd turbo technology, I think it would be interesting to see a Porsche WRC car.

because WRC manufactuers are below porsches league. they are based off $20k-30k cars.

Ive been watching the formula 1 for the past few years and even took a trip to Canada and even twice to indianapolis. F1 is also struggling- Jaguar dropped out, menardi racing is at a brick of extinction, a major engine builder for the a few teams ( owned by Ford pulled out as well). It seems now like we have 7 teams with at least two cars if not three. It used to be thats F1 had more major players- At Indianapolis it has not been sold out ever and as a matter F1 was contemplating if they will keep coming to the US.
so maybe Porsche is not as dumb as some might think.

How is it more boring this year ? They have to use one set of tires for the entire race. Use the same motor for two races and the cars that are winning are not Ferrari's for a change. I think this fact alone makes it very intersting. It appears that any of the following have legitimate chances to win: Renault, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, Honda.

Ferrari is not going to win until they get their new car and we don't know if they will be as fas as Renault. Bottom line...this will be the most interesting year in F1 in a long time, imo

Just because new teams are podium its interesting? Come on. Its not racing, its pacing. Last year it was ***** to the wall for 60 laps - thats racing. Now, I am not sure what it is now. The whole dynamics of the sport have gone to ****.

When you say pacing, do you mean conserving tire life ? If so, I can agree to some extent. It's still to early in the season for your foregone conclusion to be valid, however...

F1 will be known as Fernando 1 soon, and it's media makers can't wait. The serie's image needs his boost . It's been missing it since Ayrton's death , as it's been overun with characterless drop-in- from- the- copter robotron drivers ( MS,MH,DC,etc.) since. Imagine two mediagenic characters like Jensen Button and Fernando Alonso battling it out week after week for the two best teams. Like the Prost/Mansell/Senna days a decade ago.

Its not the racing it's the product licenseing

Ferrari with its 500 million euro racing budget probably makes money in F1. The ammount of licensed products they sell covers most of the cost. They are really the king in the E.U., with stores dedicated to selling just licensed products. If they did not have this ammount of products being sold (jackets, watches, t shirts, perfume, hats, shoes etc. etc.) they could not afford to be in F1 either. "It's just business nothing personal".
