Rattle from engine with vid thoughts

Lots of people are running 5w40 TDT, which has more ZDDP for added wear protection- this would help with the tappet wear IMO.

There's a thread on RL covering this very topic. Kevin has a potential solution with his tune, and change your oil AT LEAST every 5k with 5w40, not 0w40.

He tunes out the tapet movement. I would be reluctant to get this done until I knew what the cause of the failure is and how common it is(poor quality, engine overrevs, lack of oil protection or other causes). Until we know the facts on the tapet failure issues I wouldn,t get to excited about it. I would change to 5w40 TDT though regardless and avoid 0w40 like the plague. I change my oil in 3000 mile intervals. I do it with all my vehicles.

I had the woodruf keys that hold the gear on the end of the IMS wear out over time. I believe 100,000 miles of extra power-mod torque took it's toll. The square keys were rounded and the gear started flopping around, which caused a noise exactly like the video. This is a weak point in the motor by design. The GT3 has a one piece IMS which prevents this from ever happening, so Porsche is aware of the potential failure. I used 0-40 Mobil 1 since purchasing the car new. It had 102,000 miles at the time of the failure and all the bearings in the motor, including the IMS bearings were perfect. We replaced all the bearings anyhow, but they were all tight and fine. In fact, the entire motor internals were virtually like new.
