Five Doctors Arrested in South Florida Pain Clinic Raids

Narcotics agents descended on more than a dozen South Florida pain clinics Wednesday, arresting at least 20 people — including five doctors — in the most dramatic effort yet to curb the region’s booming business of illegal prescription narcotics, reports the Miami Herald. The raids were the culmination of a two-year investigation by a task force of federal, state and local investigators, an operation dubbed “Operation Pill Nation.” Undercover agents were dispatched to storefront pain clinics to buy potent painkillers such as oxycodone without any medical justification for the pills, investigators said.
Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti called the raids a new front in a “new kind of drug war” on the massive trafficking of prescription drugs through pain clinics operating with the outward appearance of legitimacy. Inside the clinics, doctors hand out pills without taking medical exams, and armed guards patrol the lobbies. These clinics have popped up all over South Florida in recent years. In Broward alone, the number of clinics grew from four to 130 in four years, making the region the prime supplier of illegal pills in the eastern United States.

 

That was the raid. There was video on the news of a guy with a veyron, Lambos and RR's being confiscated as well.

 

That's a bitter pill to swallow.

Whenever I see stuff like this it always makes me wonder how much the cops illegally profit from drug raids. After all, who would know if half the money was put in their pocket as opposed to turning it in.

just doesnt seem like a raid .... i mean theres no normal people driving these cars away, and they let the guy filming so close ?

 

The raids happened first, then they went after all their assets. Houses, cars, boats, a plane, etc.. I find it hard to believe that the Broward county Sheriff dept still has a deficit, all in all there must have been $20mil in assets seized from this alone. Then factor in all the medicaid fraud seizures (like our Governor Rick Scott) and there should be a surplus.

Do you remember the Medical examiner who was in charge of the Anna Nicole Smith autopsy and did the press conferences? His son was busted also.

I'm related to one of the DEA agents involved in that. Some really cool stories from that guy....

He got to drive some of the cars back....lol

 

Ha ha I think that it happens quite a bit. A friend's next door neighbor was busted for selling large amounts of pot (he was a great guy other than the gov't taking issue with his business ). Interestingly enough my friends talked with him later he said that there was about $50,000 in cash that oddly just disappeared durring the bust. The money would have been confescated anyway, but it should not have been taken by a DEA agent for personal use...
