Clutches

So after Spec failed, who's using what with success in the 996 turbo world? Car is only chipped w/exhaust and valves. It's a daily driver and see's snow as well. It has an aluminum flywheel, solid disc and Spec pressure plate right now that I'm about to remove and discard, which was terrible to drive, solid disc & aluminum flywheel.
Thanks everyone
Thanks everyone
Do yourself a favor and search the 996TT and 997TT forums for Sachs Stage 2.5.
We have sold this kit as the driveability and pedal pressure are the same as stock, yet the kit can handle up to 750hp.
Works with the stock flywheel or a single mass flyhweel.
Please visit our web site. This is a VERY popular kit for us.
See here for more detail!
If you would like to discuss further, please call or email me. I have a lot of experience with these kits and can carefully explain all the differences

Thank you Mike for the reply, I have a Southbend unit in hand right now as I have an account and have used quite a few of their products on Audis.
The plot thickens, after the starter and inspection plug were removed, the top part of the fork was bottomed against the outside of the pressure plate... maybe the throw-out bearing snap-ring failed? then removed the vent from the shaft removal side... *sigh* shaft hold down bolt nearly was round, plate MANGLED and bent from previous instal, plastic plug broken and shaft flush with the case where it mounts. Inside the 6mm hole is one needle bearing. Took me 15 minutes with a long pair of needle nose pliers to get that single needle out of the hole to thread something in to try to pull on it. Botched install of previous clutch is blatantly evident. Shaft is STUCK something fierce, trying to fabricate a slide hammer of sorts as nothing I have will fit in the confined space.
If the shaft is bent from sliding out of the far bearing which I believe is the case, I have a feeling it's about to get intersting.

Can't get your shaft out? Solution: 3' stick of M6x1.0 all-thread, and thread it in. It will extend past your rotor allowing you to put a slide hammer weight on it, or a heavy deepwell impact socket on it and thwack it out very nicely.
Chicken and the egg update...
Egg: Failed throw-out bearing, Epic fail to be exact. Parts and pieces filling the bellhousing.
Chicken: Improper insertion of fork shaft, shaft dropping out of one of it's pivot bearing, and fork was pulling on the bearing unevenly.

I realy liked my SouthBend Stg4 with stock DMass in my Audi TT. I haven't seen any Porsche guys running the SB clutches?

I've got a G96 gt box here, but it's been inverted for an Ultima and set up for a GT slave, so i'd have to delete AWD among other complications with the modded box, plus order a replacement for the kit car.

delievered the vehicle back to the owner last week, he's very happy with it. Forgot to snap pictures of the pressure plate. After the bearings disintegrated, the races welded themselves together, and began spinning in the fingers and destroyed the pressure plate fingers as well, epic fail.
Pulled the fork shaft once b/c I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling about how far it went in, shoved in the bore scope, everything was in order, crammed it back in, life was good. Think the aluminum flywheel is too light, it's great to "drive" but when you're just starting off it's a bit touchy for my taste. Owner of the car is quite happy with it.
