Street/Track Tires

Planning on taking the 996tt to some HPDE's this year. Started searching for affordable tires that I can use for the occasional track day as well as Sunday drives.

Found Falken Azenis RT-615K. Planning on wrapping the OEM hollow spokes with the following sizes:

245/40/18 front. Slightly larger in hopes of reducing understeer.
315/30/18 rear. Only size available that's close to OEM 295/30/18.

Anyone have experience with these tires or have recommendations on other brands/ sizes to consider?

Cheers!

I am going to be making a few laps tomorrow on the Falkens 615 in those sizes I will let you know. They have been great on the street so far.

Easy choice, Hankook RS3 fronts and RS2 rears, same dimensions as you listed.

I was 2 sec off GMG's James Sofronas GT2 pace at Buttonwillow on those tires - James ran R888 with the GMG GT2 at appr 1.53, I had Hankook tires on my 996TT with K16 turbos in 2WD mode and posted 1.55 (official timing). I think it says a lot about those tires. They also last a good while on street even with agressive camber, plus they are silent and comfortable as well which I find important in a tire for street.

Boomers, How wide is the OEM rear rim? Because the 615K 315/30/18 rears require a 10.5" rim minimum (10.5-11.5inch range).

By the way do 415 wide tires clear the fender and suspension components at the back no problem?

they are the 615 and I understand new 615k are a little better. I got them from the vulcan blowout 59.00

I agree ^ I ran the hankook RS2s on the Z06 and they were great but when they went to the RS3 they didn't make a 315/30/18 I didn't think the RS2s were available anymore.

Thanks for the info guys.

Z06801, please post your impressions after your track day. You got a screaming deal.

Mr. White: went to Hankook website but didn't see anything listed on the Rs 2. What do you know/think of the Ventus V12 EVO. Rears are 295/30/18, same as OEM.

Rear width = 11.0.

At stock height now. Planning on changing suspension to Coilovers, just not sure which ones yet. About the only change I'm certain to make at this point is the sways. Going with H & R front, 25mm and H & R rears 24mm.

Considering H & R Street/Performance coil overs, good price but not adjustable. Not sure I want to spring for the KW Variant 3's and the Bilsteins PSS 10's have too many contradictory stories associated with them.

Initial plan is only a couple track days, but people who know me, think otherwise. Currently track a R56 S.

A couple friends have pointed to the New Michelin PS 2 Super Sports. Just not sure I want to spend that kind of money on the rears, close to $500.00 each.

Thanks again.

Cheers!

You should also look into the Kumho XS - under $1000 for a set.

Are you running these now? I talked to a guy at the local track while back who had a Carrera S and he swore by these tires?

No, but I will be shortly. All the reviews look great (except for wet traction). I also heard the same from many track junkies as well. I'll be running 235/40/18 front and 315/30/18 rear. - $908 from TireRack.

I love my khumo xs's 245/315 they are great on the street and will be on track soon.
The hook at 4000 rpm launch on the street at 1bar with 3076's, hold turns well, very predicatable and the cost.
