High pitched whine

High pitched whine
I have an 03 turbo w 56k miles on it that now has a high pitched whine sound coming from the rear with car in gear. When I press down the clutch pedal the sound goes away. What does this sound like? Bought the car used 18 mos ago w 41k miles on it. Orig clutch. Tks.

Thanks. Wouldn't have thought about PS as cause. If there is a TSB about it, does that mean it's a recall item? Not sure if this changes anything, but I noticed the sound after a HPDE event that I was only able to complete 1.5 sessions d/t blown alternator. Dealer replaced alternator and didn't mention any other associated problems.

The power steering reservoir has a valve that can make that sound. The reason that it goes away when you step on the clutch is that the clutch and PS reservoir share the pentosin (via that valve).
To get rid of the whine you can replace the ps reservoir with a newer version that doesn't have that problem or go with the GT2 clutch slave conversion which separates the PS from the clutch mechanism.
I bought a brand new PS reservoir but before I got to install it my accumulator failed. I decided to go with the GT2 clutch slave conversion and still have the new reservoir sitting on a shelf in the garage. Not a single whine 1.5 years later.

This is a well know but easily repaired issue on the TT. It is most likely your clutch accumulator going bad. I believe mine was under $600 parts/labor repaired.
As someone mentioned you can go the GT2 system which costs more and will result in much more clutch feedback/feel at the expense of a stiffer pedal.
Any competent Porsche specialist should be able to immediately identify and fix this problem.

Yup. Had mine replaced at about 47K miles under CPO warranty.

It is a TSB, it is NOT a 'recall'. Just because PCNA publishes a fix does not mean they will cover the cost.
Pressure control valve on the PS reservoir.... and you need to get this fixed, the fluid is highly flammable.

i had the same issue and due to my habitual reading of the forum I went in with the tsb# for the steering reservoir and they replaced it no ?'s asked with about a week left under warranty. Of course by then they knew me pretty well and I'd bought the tech & s/a "lunch". A lot!

Video tape it with your smartphone. Mine was off and on as well -- so I recorded it with my phone. It was loud enough, so you could definitely tell with the recording. You should have someone depress the clutch while your recording so they can hear it go on and off too. Turns out that it was making the sound when I brought it into the dealer (maybe I drove it a little hard to the dealer? ), but they would have accepted the video too.
