Fuel Level Gauge

My fuel gauge will get to empty and give me a red dot warning with 6-7 Gallons remaining. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal fuel reserve?

If it is not normal which I suspect, Is there a way to recalibrate?

Many thanks to all in this wonderful forum! Lots of amazing 996's!

Well since there are situations that you may only get 2-3 mph, I think Porsche was being conservative. It is quite normal actually.

When my low fuel light comes on I can still drive 30-40 miles. Then I fill up and it still has 1.5-2 gallons remaining.

For me, it's about 4 gal left when the light comes on. I believe I read that the gauge is based on a calculation (rather than direct measurement) at that point. Anyone confirm this?

I think Porsche designed it this way because if you are driving 190mph you have about a minute of fuel left once the light comes on.

Since the gasoline prices look to be higher every time when I go to fillup, I'm taking every opportunity to fill the gas tank (isn't this called "cost average balancing"?). So, my car hasn't seen below 1/2 tank lately.

I will worry about this when the gasoline price is going down; but then going down usually is not as fast.
