New Best Motoring Video - Carrera Invasion - Some 911 Turbo Content

Had the 911 (996) Turbo in the tests with the new 997 Carrera & Carrera S. Here were the results.

The new Best Motoring video is out. It is called Carrera Invasion & has extensive 911/997 coverage. here are some of the results :

0-400m (No hard launches) :
1. 911 Turbo (996) : 12.277 sec.
2. 911 Carrera S : 12.829 sec.
3. 360 Modena : 12.919 sec.
4. NSX Type R : 13.086 sec.
5. 911 Carrera : 13.384 sec.
6. 350 Z 35 Anniversary Edition : 14.734 sec.

Braking 150 km-0 :
1. 911 Carrera S : 67m/220 ft.
2. 911 Turbo (996) : 73m/239 ft.
3. 911 Carrera : 78m/256 ft.
4. 360 Modena : 80m/262 ft.
5. 350Z 35th Anniversary Edition : 87m/285 ft.
6. NSX Type R : 90m/295 ft.

Track (5 laps at Sugo) (Best Lap/Total Time):
1. Carrera S : 1.41.992/8.40.918
2. NSX Type R : 1.41.157/8.41.509
3. 360 Modena : 1.41.676/8.42.255
4. 911 Turbo : 1.41.849/8.42.869
5. 911 Carrera : 1.44.438/8.50.927
6. 350 Z 35th Anniversary Edition : 1.47.192/9.07.828

The 350Z had a sticky clutch pedal & later about 3 laps into the race the 911 Carrera (non S) ran into a braking problem.

They also had a track test of the "super track cars." Here are the results (4 laps of Motegi) (Best lap/total time) :

1. Acura NSX Type R : 1.38.41/6.39.42
2. Ferrari 360 CS : 1.36.57/6.39.84
3. Porsche GT3 Club Sport : 1.37.43/6.41.21
4. Lamborghini Gallardo E gear : 1.40.48/6.49.36
5. BMW M3 CSL : 1.40.62/6.49.83
6. Ferrari 360 Modena : 1.40.50/6.50.15

Although the Lambo they later found out had a bad alignment, & also held up the Ferrari 360 CS & Porsche GT3 Club Sport for about 2 laps. If there would have been another lap the 360 CS would have probably overtaken the NSX-R. Also Gan San was driving the NSX Type R & cut off the 360 CS in the last corner.

In the braking test - do you know if the 997 S had regulars or ceramics?

After looking at the video again it had regular brakes (red calipers), the 911 Turbo they mentioned did have the PCCB.

It's hard to see how there can be such a profound difference in 150 km/h - 0 braking distance. Especially between the Carrera and Carrera S. Both cars are pretty similar in weight and aero, so is the difference really just down to tires? I mean, ceramics or not, both braking systems are fully capable of locking all four wheels.

Are the ABS systems different? or brake bias?
